Non-Political Coronavirus Thread

This just in:

In an effort to try to answer some of these questions, Pfizer, with guidance from the FDA, is initiating two studies to evaluate the efficacy and safety of a 4th dose of the BNT162b2 vaccine, as well as a higher dose BNT162b2 vaccine, an Omicron-specific vaccine, and a combination vaccine. These studies will start in March and will be offered to people who have received three doses of the Pfizer BNT162b2 vaccine with the most recent dose being 5 to 12 months ago.

This is good news that they're adjusting. I had read at some point that it was in the works.

Novavax should also get approval soon, and that one should attract some of the vax holdouts.

What happened to that vaccine our military was developing that was suppose to be resistant to all variants? Did that one die?

After 2+ years of pandemic, the Covid finally caught up to us. We visited my daughter this past weekend and her husband's 21yo cousin was staying with them. The cousin got up Sunday morning with a little sore throat and not feeling well generally. My wife and I started feeling kinda bad Mon/Tue - both tested positive this morning. My daughter tested positive today as well. The baby, 5mo, is running a fever and is fussy - we won't test her but assume she has it...

So far just a little cough, sore throat, body aches...

BTW - I was glad to see this thread so far down the page...

I was traveling with a coworker who was “glad to finally be feeling better from a cold on Sunday” so he could travel for work on Monday. Bro carried a nasty sounding cough and I’m gearing up for another covid round.

I just found out yesterday about the first person I know personally that died of Covid. She was only 52 with a husband and two kids. Terrible shit.

Are people still testing for Covid other than for travel at this point?

Only if I think I might have it. And I don't think I have it.

My mother waited forever to do a Europe trip and then tested positive in Germany. They isolated her in a hotel for 10 days. Finally let her out, direct drive to airport. Escorted to the plane-- Thanks for coming to Germany come back again later. See ya.

if you’ve been locked up for the last two years and are going out now your gonna get the rona.

If you’ve already gotten once or twice it’s all gravy baby.

oooof

So has masking come full circle from a health maneuver to a political statement to now back to just a sign of mental instability? Outside of medical offices, the only people I see wearing masks in public are the bums asking for money at intersections, people driving solo in their cars (one in a convertible with the top down last week, which was a solid move), and 1 poor bastard out of 17,000 at each NBA playoff game on TV.

what a nightmare - have an upcoming trip to Europe and the fear is a Covid positive either upon arrival or just before the scheduled flight home.

I mean, at what point does Europe just kinda stop worrying about it like we have?
