Official 2014 Midterm Election Discussion Thread

The FL gubernatorial race is one of the biggest races but the biggest change will be going to where we were four years ago with Crist in charge with a heavily Republican legislature. He's not going to have coat tails and a Republican would win in 2018 anyway.

Well I said on the other thread I had never been canvassed and then I'm standing at the T stop to go to work and Joe Kennedy is standing there shaking hands and telling everyone to vote. Got a donut from him and he said he was happier I voted in NC than in Massachusetts given the Senate race down there haha. Cool start to the day though.

#anecdotes

Yeah he's 34 and has a net worth of over 15 million while having held two total jobs over two years. Seems like a nice guy sans his full head of gingerness

If he woke up this morning worth 15 million he would jump out of a window. He is with at least twice that.

Oh I agree. I was going with the low end of the Wikipedia 15-55 million estimate. He raised four million for a house election where he was a 2-1 favorite to start with

Plus he doesn't drink. I don't trust people who don't drink. No offense to the teetotalers of the tunnels.

I agree with this. I have a running acquaintance who told us more than once that he doesn't drink or gamble. Everybody has a vice and if you don't drink or gamble, it's probably something bad.

I tend to agree but given his family history I understand why he doesn't.

Cast votes for Tom Wolf and Robert Brady this morning. Pennsylvania's 1st will stay blue.

So what will y'all be watching for tonight? NH and NC close early. Pubs don't need those two but if they go red it could be a big pub night.

Skins, you seem really excited about this for someone with no rooting interest.

I voted.

As they say - a vote for Hagan is a vote not for Tillis.

That was my thinking on it. I don't know much about what Hagan did or didn't do, but I damned sure know what Tillis did. Right now it's taking a lot of self-control to keep from jumping into a friend's FB post showing a one-off example of voter fraud and using it to justify the legislation passed last year.

I want one of those "I voted" stickers. Didn't get one for absenteeing.

Races I'm very interested in:

New Hampshire
North Carolina
Kansas
Georgia

I'm also interested to see if Charlie Baker's 9 point lead over Coakley stands in Massachusetts and the state house goes back red after Patrick.

I might be physically ill if the state I've spent 22 years of my life in votes for an anti-gay rights, education fund cutting Thom Tillis in 2014. He's a great candidate for 1956. Not so much for 2014.

I was talking to a friend who said that Tillis is just WRONG for North Carolina. I thought that was a good way to put it.

Also there are a few interesting referendums in Massachusetts. One would expand the bottle deposit law to more items (I'm against it), one would grant 40 hours of paid sick leave a year to any employer with more than 11 employees (for it, it will pass by a landslide), one will repeal a law automatically tying gas tax increases to inflation (I'm against the repeal, it's close), and the last would repeal the 2011 passage of a law allowing resort casinos in the state (I'm against the repeal here as well, this is also close).
