You aren't trading PJ Tucker for Hunter. You are trading PJ Tucker for Kevin Huerter (an extra piece). You are trading the potential of Hunter for the reality of Capela, who will fill the team's biggest need immediately.
You're so right. Next year. if the Hawks stay pat, there is a 10% chance the Hawks make the playoffs and lots of people will want to play for a mediocre team in a second rate market for a franchise that gave up the COY versus being the last piece in a team that has shown they are bold, have made the playoffs and still have $25-30M to pay someone.
Whatev - this is not how 5-8 years windows to win championships are created in this day and age.
I like Capella, but it is so hard to judge value because of how Houston crafts their offense. There have been a number of players that after being traded, just totally shat the bed. Not saying that would be Capella, but I found it interesting that they brought in Kenneth Faried for three beans and a mule and when Capella was out for three weeks last year - offensively Faried was able to duplicate Capella's production. Faried hadn't played meaningful minutes in what seemed like 5 years. Defensively, he obviously can't give you what Capella gives you, but offensively he certainly did. Yes, Faried is a pro and one who was a huge double double machine 5 or 6 years ago, but I imagine you trade Capella for Tristan Thompson and they exchange numbers ...
