Official 2022-23 College Basketball Thread: UCONN - One Shining Moment

Cuse only beat Louisville by 1. Also, does BC not suck?

Notre Dame sucks.

BC is a nightmare. They played dreadfully in OOC games dragging down the ACC power rating, but now that conference play has started, the Eagles are healthy and a tough out.

ACC again is not going to give many opportunities to “move the needle” as the season progresses.
With that being said, tomorrow is one of the few, so hopefully they play their A game.

Virginia falls to Pitt who’s 4-0 in league play.
When Kihei Clark is your leading scorer, you can be prone to losing the occasional game. UVA is pretty good and better than last year but still not great offensively. That said, Capel has Pitt playing well this season.

KP's Updated ACC Projected Standings:

T1. Miami 14-6
T1. Pitt 14-6
T1. Duke 14-6
T1. UVA 14-6
T5. Clemson 13-7
T5. UNC 13-7
7. VT 12-8
T8. WF 10-10
T8. Cuse 10-10
10. NC State 9-11
T11. FSU 7-13
T11. GT 7-13
T13. BC 6-14
T13. ND 6-14
15. L'ville 2-18

Keep in mind that 5 ACC teams received bids last year (and it's a lock that Duke and UNC are getting in unless they are abjectly horrid).

right now KP says that if WF played the Big Ten all on neutral floors,

WF would be a pick 'em against Nebraska
WF would be favored against Minnesota

and WF would be a dog against everyone else (against 11 teams in the B1G, WF would be a home dog)

Based on this cursory review, I conclude that KP is currently undervaluing the Deacs by a pretty fair amount.

The Big 10 has followed the same script that past few years:

  • Play really well in OOC games (even the crappy teams like Northwestern).
  • Have a competitive league race; so, more than half of the league has a NCAAT argument
  • Completely fall apart in the NCAAT
OTOH, the ACC has generally played like crap early in the season, and once league play starts its impossible to lift the power rating for league teams. Agree that the ACC and the Big 10 are far more competitive than the power ratings suggest, but that is the impact when ACC teams lose to the likes of:

#270 Bellarmine
#220 Wright State
#224 Lipscomb
#233 Stetson
#172 Siena
#136 Troy
#183 Bryant
#107 Colgate
#148 St. Bonnie
#299 Maine
#294 New Hampshire
#192 Tarleton State
#204 S. Carolina

This seems to be the ACC way in recent seasons.

Seems like a lot of disrespect after winning at Wisconsin.

The good news for Wake is that they've already played 4 Q1 teams compared to 5 total last year and we have 8 more opportunities, including tonight.

It's hard to argue that the ACC should be rated higher across the board than the other power conferences when we currently have 20% of the conference ranked in the bottom 50% of all teams per Torvik (FSU, Louisville, Boston College). The conference has some truly bad losses as pointed out above.

Duke choosing not to participate tonight in Raleigh is a bold choice. They've got time to turn it around but at this clip...yikes man.
