On An Airplane Next To A Fat Guy

Alright all you richies, how much better is flying first class really?

My size is the whole reason I take a Xanax and drink a glass of red wine.

It’s awesome then. I also pay to upgrade boarding position on SW to try to get the emergency exit row and more room. I’m all about paying for comfort/convenience on flight because it’s worth it.

Flying doesn't really bother me much. I just throw on a show or a podcast or play a game on my phone or take a nap and then I'm there.

good luck, that allegiant flight was fine enough for our flight down in march, but then a little snow and the return was cancelled and nearest flight they could get us back on was 3 days later.. so we ended up having to drive 12 hours w/ an infant

Well hopefully we don’t have snow…

First class for long flights is typically like 2.5-3x the cost of coach. That isn’t worth it unless you’re mega rich. I get upgraded to comfort most of the time due to status, and rarely to first. I do think the comfort upgrade $$ with extra legroom and free booze is worth it for longer flights.

A lot of people on these boards are mega rich.

I’d say first class is worth about $300, so I get it when it’s about that much or less, and pass when it’s more

i fly first class fairly often, but have truly paid for it zero times.
1. Lots of upgrades due to status
2. Paid at gate $100 for an upgrade occasionally, but only on a long flight
3. Upgrade with miles for flights to Europe

I can generally manage sitting on coach for a long flight and only consider paying for first class with longer flights. The extra space is nice but honestly the worst thing about coach on a long flight is the fucking morons you're flying with.

Like, hey, you couldn't bother to lose 150 pounds before flying to Paris so you would fit in a seat ?

No shower ? No problem !

My five kids each have four carry-ons and we're sitting 22 rows apart and we're the last ones on the plane.

Do you mind if I watch porn on my phone ? With no headphones ?

And, this is a long flight, so I'm going to walk up and down the aisle 15,000 times to get my cardio in.

Ha, fair, I don't even think anything really stuck around here on that cancellation. The real point is since they don't have a lot of flights/planes going places in general if a cancellation happens for any reason it just sucks.

i guess I'm lucky but I don't remember ever sitting next to someone who smelled really bad

the worst thing that happened to air travel in the last decade was everyone charging for checked bags, making the overhead process a nightmare

The only flights where it makes a real difference is the long flights where you get the pods or lay down seats, and most of those you can't get free bumps, you have to use the voucher thing or pay at the counter or in the club. Under 3 hour flight, you are fine in comfort or even coach, as long as you have an aisle seat. If you can swing 1st on a 5+ hour flight with the lay down seats and it wont break the bank, do it.

Comfort is significantly better than coach, though, just because of the people there, they are mainly experienced flyers so you don't have to deal with the weird shit or the kid stuff. First class on an older plane or a short flight is worthless - all you really get is a slightly bigger seat the potential for a free drink or 2 and a free pick out of the garbage snack baskets, its nice, but nothing great. On a short the fly, the biggest value in first class is being able to leave the plane quicker.

yeah that is a concern for sure. but we'll figure it out.

I used to get a little anxious about not having an aisle seat for a flight but I've since gotten over it by thinking about people who are being tortured and knowing they've got it worse than I do. So as I sit there with my headphones on and my sweaty testicles are being crushed by my own thighs and I can barely move my legs, I know I'll be done in two hours and It's better than being waterboarded.

My first time flying after Covid while sitting in coach I was googling Wheels Up to see how much it actually cost due to the unwashed masses around me.

Just zero common sense. Some women was up in arms because the woman who had a middle seat in row 30 was sitting in her middle seat in row 31. Not an exit seat. Literally no difference other than she was one row closer.

I have no problem with walkers. Moving about is important. But the ones that grab the top of the seat can die in a grease fire.
