it infuriates me when every response by some shitty republican to a mass shooting is, "well, Chicago...." Chicago barely cracks the top 30 cities in gun murders per capita. Number 1 is St. Louis, by a lot, and that's in a red state with a red governor. At least seven of the top 10 cities on the list are in red states with red governors.

And when looked at from a state by state perspective, very obvious the problem is worse in red states:

https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2022/02/03/what-the-data-says-about-gun-deaths-in-the-u-s/
"In 2020, the states with the highest rates of gun-related deaths – counting murders, suicides and all other categories tracked by the CDC – included Mississippi (28.6 per 100,000 people), Louisiana (26.3), Wyoming (25.9), Missouri (23.9) and Alabama (23.6). The states with the lowest rates included New York (5.3), Rhode Island (5.1), New Jersey (5.0), Massachusetts (3.7) and Hawaii (3.4)."
And yes, the majority of guns used in Chicago gun murders are from out of state -- Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin, Texas, etc. And Chicago would have much tougher guns laws if not for the terrible Heller and McDonald decisions, but you still can't buy a gun in the city.
you know these assholes have no real argument when they just say, "Chicago" in response to any mass shooting or attempt at gun legislation.
