Ongoing NC GOP debacle thread

it's a weird chart. Basically, it shows how much more likely non college graduates are to vote Dem (downward motion) or GOP (upward motion) vs. college graduates. So, in 2014 a white non-college graduate was 15% more likely to vote GOP than a white college graduate, and a non-white non-college graduate was 15% more likely to vote democratic than a non-white college graduate.

This link is a more cogent explanation of the issue. http://www.politifact.com/georgia/statements/2012/nov/05/larry-sabato/education-level-tied-voting-tendencies/

That chart looks like it was made by someone whose only math course was Statistics, with no business, econ, or finance courses, and who tried to teach himself everything he needs to know with a combination of MOOC and YouTube.

Facepalm

Obviously lots can change with what the House wants to do. Senate budget should be out by the end of the week. All indications are a vastly different budget then what the House released

Some background and deep irony: The North Carolina Bar Association has been trying for DECADES to get a retention system like this in place for trial court judges. The point is to get stability in the trial bench and not have local judges hustling local lawyers for campaign donations, plus the fact that 99% of the populace has no idea who the trial judges are and take a WAG when they vote. The NCBA never wanted or asked for the NCSC to be subject to such a system, the thought being that these elections were so high profile that there was NO WAY the general assembly would ever agree to take the vote away from the people.

Well now it's been turned completely on its head. The general assembly is doubling down on local trial court elections and is hell bent on making them partisan instead of nonpartisan, so now those 99% uninformed voters will be able to choose based on party affiliation instead of quality of judging or experience. And they're using the NCBA's retention idea, originally meant for trial court judges, on the NCSC. The lead author of this legislation is one of the guys who worked with the NCBA for years to try to get the retention system for trial court judges, but never could get traction.

It's one hell of a piece of political jujitsu, I have to hand it to them.

If we are going to have judicial elections, and we shouldn't, they should be partisan.

Even her fellow Guilford County Republicans in the House are against Trudy Wade's bill to restructure the Greensboro City Council, so in the dark of night she got it added to an otherwise noncontroversial bill so it will skip the House committee system (where it would not have been approved). The gall of this woman. Hopefully the House will vote it down, traditionally local bills are not passed if the local delegation opposes them.

Republicans redistributing the wealth.

"You didn't sell that! Somebody on Charlotte did."

Remember, guys, Raleigh and Charlotte are creating two North Carolina's with their shopping malls and thriving economies. Need to fix that!

Now the taxpayers get to spend a million dollars or so defending it in court for a few years. Also, it gives Roy Cooper another brilliant opportunity to further draw the ire of 2&2 (and get a lot of publicity in the run up to his gubernatorial campaign).
