State of the Program: Wellman Interview

No shortcuts? In three years [Redacted] has turned our program into what would be a laughingstock if anyone ever noticed us anymore. I would say that's one hell of a shortcut.

What a dickhead this guy is. The amount of smoke he blows up peoples asses are crazy. Our basketball team last year wasn't improving as the year went on. We peaked in January/early February and played like ass for the final month.... As to the donations, could it really have gone up 3%? Jesus, I can't believe people are giving more to the athletic department.

The incremental improvement talking point is ridiculous. Basically we have improved from one of the worst basketball teams in the history of the ACC (Buzz's first year) to a lower tier D-I team. Nice work. Dino (not a good coach) never sniffed the shitpile Buzz manages to put us in.

"The metrics that are important to us are trending upward. For instance, our overall attendance improved 11% last year; our student attendance increased 55%; our freshmen played over 60% of the minutes available which is the highest percentage by far of any ACC school and the highest we can find in D1."

For some reason, I get a kick out of the bolded part. Instead of trying to build a winning program, Ron, or one of his lackeys in the athletic department, is actually wasting time digging up stats to explain away [Redacted]'s incompetence.

And in what universe is having mostly freshmen playing (fairly average talent at that) something to be proud of three years into a coaching tenure?

Attendance figures are a load of horseshit anyway. Nobody accurately reports how many people show up to games. Those numbers are inflated.

Yeah our attendance went up from abysmally bad to terribly bad. By my eye, there actually were slightly more people there this past season than the previous one.

If the numbers are artificially inflated in some way, the bottom line in terms of actual finances is a hard objective reality. Free tickets might fill the arena but it only hurts the school financially. The receipts are what they are.

I live 12 hours away and rarely make a game but I am sure there are people in this board that regularly attend. I think it would be interesting to take photos of the stands during the game from the same vantage point each game and compare as the season goes on. Maybe get a shot of the bench side of the court where you can see upper and lower levels plus get a view of the student section.

Every game I watch it seems there is almost no one in the stands.

Kansas = cupcake schedule lol
To add on to Ph...

"I am very confident that Jeff and his staff will lead our program to championship level in the near future", but I book the most cupcake OOC schedule possible that basically confirms that I have no confidence in Jeff reaching the NCAA tourney.

Good job, good effort, Ron!

The attendance numbers are not the actual number of fans that attended the games. It's the number of tickets that were distributed. Just some very simple number crunching... Let's say we averaged 400 students in 2012 (which would be REALLY generous) a 60% increase would put at a whopping 640 last year. But, 60% increase!!!!11!!!!1!! #wellmanlogic

"Many of our fans recognize that the team has improved each year that Jeff has been our coach. We must build a program with certain values and standards for us to be successful at Wake Forest. There are no shortcuts. Jeff has made every decision for the long-term welfare of our program and, as a result, our program will continue to improve this year and subsequent years. We have the foundation and players that will allow us to do that."

If anyone can decipher the bolded portion of this idiot's comment, please, by all means, feel free to do so.

How about doing a better job of helping to shape young men and women into exemplary student athletes so you don't need to rely on lily white school boys and choir girls in your recruiting?? Can you not see the utter cowardice of this philosophy? Is Josh Howard not living proof of what a coach and staff can do to lift up those who may not always walk the straight and narrow?

Man we must've lost a ton of money in a settlement to shut up the girl who leveled rape accusations on the Today Show. Cuz we seem to be running scared and hiding behind the veil of "ethical standards" and "lofty values."

Ummmm, IIRC, Michigan played five freshman a lot of minutes last season in route to the National Title game. I understand how Ronnie and his crack of staff must have missed that, it wasn't a big story or anything.

That assumes the booKs aren't cooKed.

that should have been a follow up question. "the fans are concerned with those numbers. are the donations and attendance numbers really up? because the those numbers pass neither the eye nor smell test."

DemanDeac wasn't going to ask follow ups.
