State of the Union Address Delayed Until After Shutdown

Russian embassy would be more his speed. He'd just claim they had a really nice ballroom or something.

Well they only other response really is to give in to his toddler-like temper tantrum, so I don’t think anything Pelosi has done is petty. She’s basically acting like his mother, letting him know that he isn’t going to get dessert if he acts like this. The GOP had 2 years to curtail Trump and gladly ignored his bullshit. Someone had to.

In a real sense this showdown has been building for a decade, ever since Obama took office and McConnell and the Tea Party movement decided to stop compromising with Democrats and cutting deals, which has been the way to get things done in Congress since the beginning of the Republic. Instead, since 2009 the GOP has presented a unified front in blocking everything Obama or other Democrats want, while pushing through their own bills (like the tax cut) with no input from the other side. They blocked Garland and slowed Obama's federal judicial appointments. It was inevitable that the Democrats would finally start to push back whenever they got a majority in either House, and finally figured out that they were being had. It appears that Pelosi has decided the time for the Dems to make their stand is now. So far, at least in the court of public opinion, it seems to be working.

LOL. The SOTU isn't "government leaders working together", it's a political speech by the POTUS laying out his agenda for the coming year and asking Congress to support it. Starting with Reagan it's also become a chance for the POTUS to bring "honored guests" into the balcony to sit with the FLOTUS so he can point to them and score political points with his base, or independents, or whatever. Or at least that's what it has always been. Lord only knows what Trump will do with it this year, if he ever gets the chance to deliver it. McCarthy delivers that plea with all the enthusiasm of a man who has been told on a Friday to come in over the weekend to work.

GOP: We hate Obama so much that we will refuse to allow him to govern for his full term and then try our hardest to undo his policies as soon as he's out of office. Our way or the highway.

Democrats: We aren't going to let Trump build a monument to his racism that most people don't want.

Trump is owned by Pelosi on the left and Coulter on the right.

“I moved on her like a bitch.”

—Donald J. Trump

Anybody else feel like we could see a challenger from the right emerge out of this? “Trump lied to us about the wall” is a good start to a campaign.

If you’re a Dem I think you have to love Pelosi since the election was over. She’s dominated Trump at every turn. It also seems like the freshmen/women House members are acing their first few weeks on the job.

Given how much Trump is influenced and manipulated by right-wing talking heads, I'm sure he didn't enjoy Laura Ingraham's show tonight. Apparently she went after Trump for caving to Pelosi and delaying his SOTU speech until after the shutdown. She suggested that he give not one but three SOTUs: the first in Detroit, the second at Ellis Island, and the third at the Mexican border. So, she wants him to speak in a city where auto factory workers have lost jobs due to his trade war and job outsourcing, for a guy who's been embroiled in immigration controversies to speak at a national landmark for immigration to America, and then travel to the border (again) to give a third SOTU speech pushing for a border wall that most people in polls say they don't want. Great thinking, Laura! Of course, Trump might cave and take her advice, as he did Ann Coulter's and Rush Limbaugh's.
