The religious right's hypocrisy now on full display

"Whereas we seek forgiveness for our many transgressions so that our hearts and minds may be renewed".

I think we can speak to the RR about fixing the laws and systems of racist previous generations in terms of repentance and forgiveness. To repent means to make it right, not just do better from now on. Upon meeting Christ, Zacchaeus did not just resolve not to cheat anyone going forward, but he looked back "if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount." (Luke 19:8). Current generations may not be guilty of making these laws and systems, but they can be guilty of perpetuating them.

Who knows how seriously they take the quote from the Proclamation above, but our best chance of having them "get it" is to use language and stories they are familiar with.

Back to their well-deserved bashing.

Tennessee is turning into a real backwards POS place. Shithole state trying to be Mississippi.

Feels like every other crazy right wing lunatic story that's not about Florida or Texas is about Tennessee now. Still like Nashvegas though.

What you're seeing among the religious right is a group of people becoming more and more threatened and desperate. They're seeing church attendance and belief in the Christian God declining at a rapid pace and they are threatened with losing the dominance they have enjoyed for a century or more. To protect that, they are openly attempting to write the word of God into local, state, and federal law. It will only get worse as their base continues to decline.

But the things is, ironically those actions are further fueling their downward spiral.

Apparently, we now know without a shadow of a doubt what jesus would do.

We do know what Jesus would do with respect to politics. He challenged political leaders but rejected the temptation of political power.

Some of the California fambly sending this around…

American Christians of every race, ethnicity, nationality, and religion aren't majority Republican except for white evangelicals and Mormons.

Ha. The central tenet of Christianity of being anti-abortion that goes all the way back to the early 70s.

Because evangelicals put such a high value on Scripture and each individuals ability to read and understand for themselves (ignore the patriarchal and hierarchical views of power/authority in who determines orthodoxy for a moment), they have such a small understanding of church history (even the history of their own sect) and historical context.

White American Evangelical Christianity is the heresy. They ignore church history and increasingly ignore the Bible. Their thirst for earthy power and wealth is antithetical to the teaching of Jesus.

One can certainly make a strong argument that white Evangelicals have become the very thing they're constantly fearful of and preach against in their churches - a false religion with false teachings who worship a fake Christ (Anti-Christ) and have been led astray by "the things of this world." As I've read elsewhere, it may finally be time to recognize that Evangelical Christianity is less a theological than simply a cultural and social concept.

A cynical ploy to get Catholics on board with movement conservativism has birthed a generation of conservatives whose main political/theological principle is anti-abortion (unless in the case of risk to the life of the Republican Party Senate majority).
