Totally Unofficial 2021/22 Premier League Thread (NWT)

One of our beat writers said it's no one on Spurs. Sounds like a lot of London-based footballers live in the area anyway.

Don't know why anybody not playing for Tottenham or Arsenal would live in Barnet.

And remember, what matters is not where the stadia are located but where teams' practice facilities are located.

So Barca cannot afford to keep Frenkie de Jong because they are broke af
But Barca cannot afford to sell Frenkie de Jong because they would then owe him 17+ mil Euros in deferred wages and they can't do that because they are broke af

More than a club indeed

Leeds signed Sinisterra from Feyenoord as well? They've really gone to work. I imagine Raphinha will be off soon but they've got a solid attacking core.

Harrison, Rodrigo, Aaronson, Sinisterra, Bamford, James

Adams and Roca in holding positions.

Tough to get that many new pieces in place but they've got the whole pre-season which is helpful.

England is pretty hardcore about releasing accused names -- any public comment on the socials by anyone could be viewed as affecting the case/trial. You see it all the time -- I still don't think Gylfi Sigurdsson has been officially widely named for the child porn stuff. It'll come out.

Ohhh, interesting. That makes sense. I assumed it was public knowledge once he was charged.

My daughter is taking classes in Barcelona this summer and just face timed me from the Nou Camp. Took me along on the tour and I did see the "Mas que un club" in the background.

Ah, I don't share your city knowledge. Just remember comments that lots of footballers would live in the more posh areas of North London and so it wouldn't necessarily map onto being an Arsenal or Spurs player.

I could see a Watford player living over in Barnet but I have no idea where Watford train (I would assume in Watford)

Twitter is pretty sure it’s Thomas Partey.

He didn't travel with the squad for early preseason training in Germany this week and neither the club nor anyone in his camp has posted anything about him since the news broke. The signs are all pointing towards him, but I don't know why it hasn't been confirmed if the charges have come through (a la Mendy).

I didn't know either so I just had a look. Apparently Arsenal and Watford both train at adjacent facilities in London Colney, in Hertfordshire. So basically equidistant between Watford and Barnet and a bit north.

Spurs are just north of Enfield, just NE of Barnet.

So a player for any of those three clubs wanting to live near training could live in Barnet. I've been to Arsene Wenger's house near there. Also, the richest neighborhood in England (?), Totteridge, is near Barnet.

For comparison, West Ham trains at Chadwell Heath in east London, and many of our players live in essex, in nearby Chigwell. Spurs used to have a training ground near there, so some of the older players may live there too.

For those who don't know the area, none of this is really Central London, though High Barnet is the last stop on the underground. So fancy, leafy neighborhoods, with easy commutes, and no central London prices

I thought the qualifiers from the original story included Prem player (ruling Watford players out) and likely to go to the World Cup (ruling out Lucas Moura). Xhaka has been photographed multiple times on holiday and posted as such on IG, I imagine similar has come out with Son though I haven't checked. I hope very much it's not Partey but I'm not overly optimistic.

Oh I didn't read anything. I was just responding to the interesting question about who lived where. After seeing a list of the age-appropriate candidates it sounds like it's definitely Partey

Jack Wilshere announced his retirement and is taking a job as coach of the Arsenal U18s. He's only 30. Amazing what injuries did to his career.

No Ronaldo for the pre-season tour and now the front office are leaking it to the press that they are willing to listen to offers for him.

So that transfer went well. At least he didn't lift the title with Man City... I guess?
