True Detective on HBO

Could he have been wearing a vest?

I don't want him to be dead, but I also feel like it'd be a little cheap if he wasn't.

Didn't they say something about dead no eyes guy getting tortured with a shotgun?

Yeah, had his dick blown off with it iirc.

Colin has gotta be dead.. even rubber bullets can kill at that range I think.

.. and it kind of makes sense, we're back to having just two detectives on the case now, and a weird animal-head-wearing villain has entered the scene.

didn't they blast Caspere's junk off with a shotgun? I thought they went for Velcoro's junk too in the second shot, though maybe it was the gut.

Also, I maybe fell asleep and missed a couple minutes right before he went into the house, so I'm sort of glad other people are also confused.

Lol I did the exact same thing, rewatched the last few minutes again just now..

I think they had a shot of the car that Caspere was being transported dead in right before Colin's character went into the house. That should have been a giveaway.

Also, can we take a moment to celebrate the fact that HBO just showed some hardcore DP porn on a popular/widely watched show?

Seems like he was being super reckless searching the house (with music playing, etc.) without a gun drawn or without really paying attention to what was around him.

He had his gun drawn, just holstered it after seeing the pool of blood (BRILLIANT).

Some people on the internetz (re: reddit) seem pretty convinced that he's still going to be alive based on scenes in the previews for the show that we haven't seen yet. I kind of hope that was just a tease or something, would be kinda weak to finish the episode like that and leave him alive.

What's the point of the second blast if they're rubber bullets?

I just feel like there has been too much development in Ray's character, more than Ani, Paul, or Frank, to kill him off this soon. Idk what happened, but I feel like if that were an actual shotgun blast there would have been bloodspray everywhere. Interested to see what happens, but I don't think we have seen the last of Ray

I never considered anything other than he was dead. While, he is the most interesting character this season, if he survives those two shot gun blasts...that would be pretty lame.

If it was rock salt in that shotgun, I think back to Kill Bill Vol. 2. I also assume even rock salt would kill you if fired from a shotgun pressed directly into your stomach.

Man, I'm having a tough time with these first two episodes. It borders on unwatchable/unlistenable for way too long -- some really cringe-worthy dialogue. Though I bet if it was Farrell/Vaughn in the first one I would have thought the same thing. These guys just don't have the chops of Harrelson/McConaughey and the writing and direction has been exposed for it. I'm still intrigued.

I had a tough time with the Vince Vaughn monologue. It just sounded so overwritten, went on for far too long, and just didn't sound natural coming from Vince Vaughn's mouth. I thought the scene with Velcoro and his ex-wife from Rectify and The Fappening fame was also sort of cringe-worthy.

The thing that I've actually enjoyed most about these 2 episodes has been talking in a creepy Leonard Cohen voice after hearing the opening song.

fuck i just realized i somehow missed the first 20 mins of the first ep. like when i started it it jumped 20 mins or something. i felt like id defs missed some things so went back and started the first ep again. WTF.

Think I will enjoy it better if I just look at it in the pulp fiction camp hardboiler paradigm. I like Pizzolato's overall feel and philosophy, but so far it doesn't seem like the right mix to me with the acting/directing/writing. The story is pretty interesting, but I'm skeptical all involved are going to be able to pull it off. Vince Vaughn just looks like he's trying too hard some of the time. The scene where he is talking to the guy his goons just fucked up was better.

But hey, maybe it's because the character is trying too hard to be the kingpin and it's all meta and as the show progresses Vince Vaughn gets more comfortable as he gets back to being the hood he is used to be, and the acting becomes slightly less stiff. Or something. I dunno.

30 minutes. WTF

The first two episodes of Season 1 were pretty meh as well. I had to convince a few friends who started the show later on in the season to power through them and make it to Episode Three. A lot of great shows start out slow, as they use the first episode or two to set up everyone's back story.

I personally have enjoyed the first two episodes and am sad I won't be able to watch anymore of them live. Hopefully I can find a way to use HBO GO in Asia. This is the only show I really care about keeping up with.
