Trump Indicted

Republicans including rival 2024 candidates bemoaning the “weaponization” of law enforcement rather than Trump’s behavior.

Kind of ironic that if Trump loses the nomination over this, the GOP probably has a better chance of beating Biden, and then he'd get pardoned immediately. But if he wins the nomination and then loses the election as expected, he could actually go to prison. Have fun doing the risk analysis on that one team Trump...
 
And despite the fact that he has given nearly constant evidence of his shittiness for decades he is the leading candidate for the 2024 nomination for president for the Republican party.

The last time his indictments came out he actually increased his lead over his GOP rivals in the polls and his approval rating among his base soared. Not much reason to think this time will be any different. Trump and his minions are already portraying this as a partisan hit job, and Fox and other right-wing media are playing along - Fox's website headlines since last night are consistently referring to this not as an indictment from the federal government, but a "Biden DOJ indictment". His base has been trained to see any legal moves against him, anywhere, as a LibDem partisan hit job designed to not only bring down Dear Leader, but all of his supporters as well. The details of the charges against him don't matter to Trumpites - they just see it as yet another evil progressive attempt to destroy their hero.

And it forces the other candidates to come to his defense. Charlie Kirk was tweeting that all candidates should show solidarity in Miami on Tue.

And this is where someone like Chris Christie can really take a stand.

It’s all projection…the claim, without evidence as usual, is that the DOJ is doing exactly what Trumpublicans wished it would have done, also without evidence, to Trump’s rivals.

They need to come strong on the obstruction and espionage charges. From what I've read about Jack Smith, he wouldn't indict without something major.
