Wellman's decisions since Skip's death are why we are where we are. Wellman basically taught the world that coaching hires should never be made on the basis of incoming recruits. Mistake #1 was signing Dino to a multi-year contract. That decision was 100% Wellman's. Mistake #2 was extending Dino's contract months before firing him. If Wellman handle's either of those situations better we are not in this mess.
Regarding #2, Wellman should have simply told Dino his contract would not be renewed, and then held a presser explaining differences in philosophies, and promoted an assistant to interim head coach (see mistake #1). Instead, we were left with a huge buyout and unable to afford a good coach.
