WF @ VT (10/14), 3:30PM on ACC Network

I've met Dave several times at fundraisers. Trust me.... this is eating him up!!!! There is no one wanting to fix this shit pile of a season more than Clawson. We have to give him time to adjust.

He's said this as much before in that he's losing sleep over what has become of the season.

He's candid in that "he didn't see this coming."

With respect to NIL, Griffis not being a FBS level QB, or both?

I certainly see the angle of "does he want to keep doing it in this landscape?", kinda like what Roy said regarding how everything was trending.
This is my interpretation of the “is Clawson done?” Discussion. He’s visibly frustrated both with the teams performance this year, and the general landscape of pay for play. I in no way think Wake should move to get rid of him, but I can see him not seeing coaching college football as the profession that he loves anymore. You can hear that when he talks about the frustration of rule changes to maximize commercial dollars rather than plays the kids get on the field, and what that does to their development and participation in the game. I think that extends tonthe NIL landscape as well when it comes to the ability to run a program and develop players and implement systems. Clawson seems to be a coach that loves college football even more than just football

the short answer is no, because of the current board of RTQ. That however isn't sustainable long term.

That said, Kansas basketball is another animal.
Why not sustainable? I would think there's a handful of Wake grads in every generation who strike it rich enough to be major players like the current board members but maybe not. I get that guys like Shah/McCreary are pretty unique.

Also, is the RTQ strategy to go grassroots with lots of little contributions from people of modest means, or just focus on donors who can stroke five-figure checks annually?

Time for DR to bring in the Saudi investment fund to RTQ (and maybe we throw a RTQ board seat at Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman) and turn the NCAA paradigm on its f-ing ear. Hide your keys. I want Caleb Williams throwing to Brock Bowers next year for the Old Gold and Black; we will blow away the socialistic NFL rookie wage scale. Greg Norman humping Phil Mickelson on the Deacon motorcycle for the 2024 home opener.

I have never gotten the sense that Clawson is ever ok with losing. He's clearly as focused and competitive as anyone.

That being said his blind trust of Mitch despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary was a tough pill to swallow. But I get it.

It's not sustainable to rely on McCreary/Shah/Sutton every season. We will always - on some level - be donor reliant, but not at current levels from the board.

As to your second question, we are focused on both. We're also looking into additonal creative means where you can support the collective like Beer or Vodka partnerships where 25% of sales would go back to RTQ.

Agreed. I think we absolutely must give him the time to adjust as he's earned that respect. Now, having said this, if he either refuses to make adjustments or proves that he cannot? Well, then that's a conversation for another day between him and John Currie. I'm certainly not making excuses that we shit the bed on evaluating this team's capabilities. But, I think Clawson will make things right. We shall know soon enough!

I'm not a LIV fan, but I'm not ashamed to admit, sportswashing discussions be damned, I'd be all in on the Saudis helping turn Wake into the preeminent NIL athletic program in the country. Play the first game of the year in Riyadh like ND does in Dublin? Sure, let's do it.

ETA: I have no doubt that some big schools are probing this potential, maybe not with the Saudis, but similar channels to allow foreign governments/companies to dip their hands in the US football market.

I mean I guess...we made the conference title game two years ago. We have the competitive ability but the landscape, as noted, is changing rapidly

This is what kills me about our inability to go further over the last two years. To win the ACC championship, or to really make some noise nationally. I don’t know whether success then would’ve led to any more success now. But I know that it was an opportunity to do some amazing things at Wake which we missed. Still impressive that we accomplished what we did.

The thing is "we made the conference title game two years ago" doesn't mean much except part of the fall of a program if this season ends up 3-9 (0-8) or 4-8 (1-7) which is very likely.

I’m sure the Saudis are all about supporting a Christian affiliated University.

Gonna be super fun to have Saturday's broadcast focus on how "these two teams were in the championship game just two seasons ago" but have fallen on hard times.
