WFU Hoops: '23-'24 Roster Construction Thread: +Miller, Sallis, Reid, & Canka

Not even remotely close to what we're looking for with 2 available spots left imo. Just not good enough.

ETA: That wasn't a slight at you Pilchard - it's a good share given Forbes connections there.

I know Forbes likes to talk about having "13 ACC players", but that's not really possible when the deepest of teams play a 9 man rotation. This is part of how the portal has commoditized players. We bring in 13 guys we think can help, chase off the ones that don't, rinse and repeat knowing all along that there is no way there is room for 13 ACC level players. It's a terrible cycle for players. Years ago, you would hold on to guys like Taylor and McCray and they would likely play as upperclassmen, but now you chase them off and get another massive haul of players, before repeating the cycle again with them. Personally, I'm not a fan of the program treating players as commodities in this way, and I had no problem with Bradford voicing his discontent on social media when it became clear to him that he was brought in as a temporary commodity and chased off to make room for the next batch.
Years ago, you would hold on to guys like Sharone Wright and Michael Wynn and they would likely play as upperclassmen.

Years ago, you would hold on to guys like Rondale Watson and Cornelius Hudson and they would likely play as upperclassmen.

Years ago, you would hold on to guys like Tony Chennault and Carson Desrosiers and they would likely play as upperclassmen.

Years ago, you would hold on to guys like Anthony Gurley and Casey Crawford and they would likely play as upperclassmen.

Years ago, you would hold on to guys like Jeremy Ingram and Todd Hendley and they would likely play as upperclassmen.

Years ago, you would hold on to guys like James Griffin and Niki Arinze and they would likely play as upperclassmen.

Years ago, you would hold on to guys like Antonio Jackson and Stacey Castle and they would likely play as upperclassmen.

Puff Johnson isn’t very good. I’m sure HD can replace him with someone better. Not because he’s a good coach, but because of where he is the coach.

He was horrific against Princeton and seems like the fanbase turned against him

Kriisa injured his right shoulder in the Pac-12 tournament, and he gutted out, but his shooting went into the toilet.

How did that work out this year?

The older players like Hubert because they can play like crap without fear that Davis will give their minutes to someone else. Even if UNC has talented frosh wasting on the pine.

i mean, a lot better than if he left you would think
Really? UNC would have been worse? If that is the case, then, Davis has no clue on how to build a roster either through the portal or recruiting, which is unbelievable given UNC's blue-blood rep. Everyone else loses good players off their roster and manages to compete. UNC keep everyone adds 3 four star recruits and gets worse.

what's the record for preseason/end-of-season POY predictions that don't pan out?

you think they would have been better if Bacot had left?
The issue is not whether or not Bacot plays for UNC. He's a solid player with some obvious limitations, but with Davis at the helm, it does not matter if Bacot is on the UNC roster. UNC massively underperformed their talent level in 2022 (they were an 8 seed in the NCAAT), but put it together for a tourney run, and suddenly, everyone forgot how Davis mismanaged his team for the entire season, save March. This year, UNC again massively underperformed. So, as long as Hubert is in charge, Bacot's status is not the issue, UNC will under-perform. As a WF fan, hope in 2024, UNC has a decent enough season to keep his job, but as ATS previously stated, if UNC misses the NCAAT again, he is gone, and UNC may stumble into a good hire, which would suck.

UNC caught a postseason heater where nobody could hit a 3 against them. It was uncanny. Otherwise Davis might be out of a job today.
