Partial Blame

I think one test of this hire (if it happens) is how many ESPN games are on the schedule. If the ESPN folks respect Manning, we'll get a much better slate of TV games. I have no doubt we'll play a similar cupcake schedule.

I would think they would base that more on preseason expectations. I guess we can test that theory based on how many games VT gets compared to us.

Preseason expectations rest squarely on what they expect from Manning.

Sure. I'll give 5% to the fans. The rest to Bz and Wellman

But that the same ratio at every other program in the fucking nation. If you want goodie tooshoos fans, go find a Div 2 team.

Wrong....fans played no part in not getting who we wanted.

Period.

I just posted this on another thread (we've got about a dozen damned threads on the same thing), but maybe here is where it should be:

I don't think Manning will take this job. I don't know why anyone who had other options would take it, unless Wake just dumped boatloads of money in his lap....far more than he could get anywhere else. Because if it was just a modest amount more than he could get somewhere else, it wouldn't be worth the headaches he would have coaching here.

Wonder if Manning is aware that many WF fans on this board are already bitching about him and ridiculing him...before he has even taken the job? That's the kind of shit a coach would have to put up with if he took this job.

The irony is the folks on this board routinely talk about how delusional other fan bases are, how the unrealistic expectations and very public and over the top nature way the fans lunch their coaches is absurd. Then when the dumbass self-entitled twits in this board get written up they think for their child-like behavior they actually believe that not only are they not part of the problem, they think they are the only thing working towards a solution. Pathetic display of common sense and self-awareness. Truly pathetic

I've actually thought about this a few times. Did we go too far? Were the fans too negative?

Then I realized that Wake Forest is so tame compared to other fanbases. If you can't handle Wake Forest fans then you're not cut out for coaching high level college athletics. I don't know that [Redacted] would have lasted anywhere else in the ACC as long as he did here.

Can you imagine how long [Redacted] would be stuck on an elevator in Chapel Hill or Syracuse?

They would have found his skeleton at the bottom of the elevator shaft five years from now.

If [name redacted] had coached at Duke, then Jay Bilas would have slit the asshole's throat with his own hands.

The truth is the truth. It did absolutely no good. It was portrayed across the country as a bunch of yokels. He who shall not be named stayed on for another season and we missed our Top 3-4 targets to replace him.

Only self-indulgent, egotistical yokels maintain any of those actions did anything to help our basketball program.

if it wasn't for fan (students, alums, boosters, etc) angst [Redacted] would be back

[Redacted] not coming back helps our basketball program

soooooo much stupid going on

tbpnwe, rj, and bkf the adults in the room. The rest of you haterz are impudent children.

I have zero issue with a cupcake schedule in year 1 with a new coach.

I have a problem with it when it is clearly done to pump up the win total of a coach who most fans want gone.

So we've heard from coaches that our AD has no respect in the coaching circles for how he treated Dino and that's on the fans according to the old fart crowd on here? I hope when I get old my powers of reason don't fail me like a few on this thread. Maybe you guys can rally around the chess team or something. This is big time athletics. ALOT of money is changing hands. Results are expected

I've said this before way in the past, but I've had an A-10 head coach, a first assistant in the BE and an ACC assistant all say to me that they thought it was awful Dino was fired after a tourney win, especially after taking over at such a tough time. They had very not nice comments about Wellman. If he had hired a superstar, maybe people would have forgotten this. Instead, he hired a complete failure and has continually bashed Dino and Skips recruits in a very public manner. Skip was a super popular and well respected guy in coaching circles- that shit does not go over well. It certainly hurts worse than a few billboards and an ad in the local paper.

Nailed it. A good friend coaches HS ball in NoVa and has discussed this with a number of college coaches, including Dino. Let's just say those with opinions take Dino's side.

Wellman poisoned the well and until he goes, we will face the same hindrances.

Hmm this is an interesting topic that I don't think we've talked about.

DELETE.

BAN.

FOREVER.

The billboard stuff didn't look good nationally but let's be honest most people don't follow Wake athletics that closely and really don't care. My point is I don't think the blow back from the billboard stuff has had any real effect on the coaching search.

We all know that it is a FACT that before a potential coach makes a commitment to a multi-million dollar contract which means uprooting his family and moving them hundreds or thousands of miles, the first thing he does before signing this life-changing document, is check the school's message boards and considers all the brilliant messages he reads so that he can truly make an informed decision whether to sign or not.

You mean the fact that I've said the way RW fired Dino was wrong is immaterial. Make no mistake, Dino deserved to be fired, but because he was a much better assistant than HC.

The fact is many of us have stated for years that the handling of the Dino debacle made it impossible to fire Bzdleik before the end of last year. But don't let little things like facts get in your way.

I know it's tough for you to understand, but it is very possible and likely to think RW handled the firing of Dino very poorly and the billboards/ads harmed our image. They aren't mutually exclusive.
