Besides Wake, what is the best school that accepted you?

Villanova - accepted
Richmond - rejected
Washington & Lee - rejected
Loyola Baltimore - accepted
Wake - accepted (wait list)

+1. Not a good decision in retrospect.

why was it not a good decision?

i was another one of the early single choicers. i applied immediately when i was able (high school wouldn't send the required recommendations and stuff until the school year started, even though nothing was going to change over the summer), and was accepted in september. i had the greatest senior year ever. no pressure at all. my parents were pretty thankful too, since it was a nightmare with my older brother trying to complete all of his applications over christmas break when he was a senior.

i also had the duke application ready to fill out if wake hadn't worked out. also intended to look at davidson and vandy, but knew that if i got into wake, it's where i wanted to be.

Wow...Wake over Princeton?

I didn't get accepted to Princeton, but I would have dropped WFU in a heartbeat if that one had come through for me.
I knew two people at Wake who chose Wake over Princeton. At least one had some good scholarship $$ at Wake.

I found there was a pretty wide variation of kids at Wake. There were some Ivy League quality students, and some who seemed fairly dull but must have worked hard in high school.

i also knew a guy at wake who had turned down yale. he ended up going there for grad school though.

Accepted to:

Notre Dame
Boston College
Villanova
Lafayette
UNH
SMU
US Air Force Academy
University Of Richmond

I was an idiot and quite lucky in retrospect. Wake was the best school in my pile of applications.

Hampden Sydney - accepted
App State - accepted
UGA - accepted
UNC - rejected (out-of-state)

Also accepted at Clemson, but I did not apply. Family had been going there since it was a military school, and I had family members there as professors and administrators at the time (including someone in the admissions department - thus, the application free admissions letter). I am the black sheep.

Had a few options for smaller school athletic scholarships, but opted to try to walk-on at Wake. Coaching change and then tryouts didn't go so well. Oh well. No regrets.

I applied to Wake, Davidson and UNC. Got into all 3. Chose Wake over Davidson primarily because Wake had ACC sports (insert laugh track and then tear slowly trickling down one cheek).

Applied to Wake only.

Got accepted at Michigan State, ECU and UNC-G without application.

Should have gone to UNC-G. Female to male ratio was about 15 to 1. Even Silk could have got dates in that target rich campus.

yeesh wake isn't as selective as I thought based on this thread, granted this thread will have a 100% wake acceptance bias. Need to open it up to the uglies to get a true sample.

I got accepted into some schools that I never applied (Texas for one). I was receiving phone calls from some Ivy League schools encouraging me to apply. I grew up in a small town and felt that Wake was the right size for me. It was, and I enjoyed myself immensely. However, I have often wondered what schools would have accepted me. It obviously doesn't matter at this point, but I kind of wish I knew.

But you are right. I felt great knowing by October that I would be attending a top 25 university the following year. (Wake was top 25 at the time, if barely).

I wonder how many people apply to both Harvard and App on a yearly basis? That has to be a small number.

My hometown is only about 20 minutes from Boone so it was the ultimate safety school and my folks could afford it (dad is a factory worker, mom is a nurse). Plus, I was in a program where the application fee to App was waived. I knew I would get into UNC and NC State but paying for it was the question. Georgetown and especially Harvard were the reach schools. Wake was my top choice and ended up being cheaper than anywhere else I applied.

It's like being surprised that the men's restroom is full of men.

yes indeed, it was awesome being accepted in November. I was in an IB program so we had the big extended essay due around the time applications were due, so since I was in I was able to focus on that and get it done well ahead of the deadline, while I had friends freaking out and staying up all night to fill out apps and finish their essays.
