One is an 'e' sound and one is an 'i' sound.

There is a lot of vowel distinction in that area. When I moved to NJ from OK I didn't differentiate between "pen" and "pin" and people noticed/commented on it a lot.
Pan? Weird. There is no difference between Pen and Pin for me.
I say pin and pen as the same.

Mary rhymes with fairy
Merry rhymes with berry
Marry rhymes with Harry
Come on people!
Here's my best shot:
Mary - hairy, fairy, scary, actuary
Merry - berry, furry, slurry, worry
Marry - Larry, Harry, nary, carry
Does that help?
Water:
wit-er (Pennsylvania)
Waa-tur: everywhere else.

the merry differences are a nasal thing. You really just need to think of how a jappy sorority chick talks. But maybe you don't have those.
tues-dee is a baltimore thing too

I learned the term JAP and NJB recently. I had no idea this was a thing.
Words here that rhyme to me: Mary, hairy, fairy, scary, actuary, marry, Larry, Harry, nary, carry, berry
Words that rhyme with each other but not the other ones: furry, slurry, worry
Nobody says "merry" so it is pronounced as "murray" do they?
