Welcome to BzzOut!!

My timeline:

1. Disappointed we fired Dino. Thought he deserved to fail before being fired.

2. Disappointed we hired Bz, but wiling to give him a chance.

3. Gave him 2 years of wait and see. Pretty obvious early on he wasn't going to cut it but tried to cut him some slack.

4. Year 3 he and Wellman ramped up the propaganda machine and it was all I could take. Turned bzzout midway through the third year.

I have never been bzin, but have done everything possible to stay positive throughout this debacle. Eventually you have to succumb to reality. Bz needs to be fired. Yesterday.

With a couple of small edits, this is my timeline, as well.

Wanted Dino gone because he let the guys play street ball. Was Buzz out after Stetson. Who the fuck had even heard of Stetson, much less knew they had a basketball team? I thought Stetson was a shity cologne.

Stetson was younger than Wake.

Another post from Jason:

"Just because I gave the guy a chance and others didn't does not make me wrong. I have said along he needed some time just like other coaches to show if he could get the job done. I think the guy is a good in game coach but I think his problem as many have said lies in the recruiting department. It doesn't really matter how good he is in game if the players are not there to start with. I think we have some talented players but we need a couple stars and I don't think he can get them here. I prayed for this situation today at church and I hope God will help. I don't usually ask for help when it comes to something like this but this fan base is about to explode and I can't handle all of this. With PTSD and other problems I don;t need this. I am sorry if I offended anyone, I just want to win as much as anyone right now. I told everyone if he don't win this year he needs to go. Well it looks more and more like 20 wins is out of the question."

If this post doesn't make you understand how futile and sad religion is, nothing will.

These match my thoughts pretty closely, except that the slack I was willing to cut him ended (without looking it up) January 5, 2012 after the Wofford loss.

ETA: dammit, it was January 2

My timeline:

1. Thought it was dumb to fire Dino, when Ron did. True, we had some late season collapses, but we just advanced to the second round of the NCAAT, and the guy had made the tournament 2 out of the 3 years he was there.

2. Pissed at the Bz hire from the start. Knew he was a loser, and that he would fail here.

3. Everything I've seen since the hire over the past 3-4 years has been a propaganda battle on behalf of the AD to "win over" the hearts and minds of the fanbase to a guy that's a proven loser, and never had any business being a D-1 coach in the ACC.

When your spending as much effort as the AD is in fighting to win over the fan base by year 3 and 4 over a controversial hire, it's a sure sign that the coach will never be accepted (and in our case rightfully so).

This is/was me almost exactly. Knew Bz would fail and wanted him gone pretty much from day one...nothing in his background and nothing that he said or did from the moment he got the job every gave us any hope that he could succeed here or even be average here...

I guess this qualifies as a mea culpa... sort of... but I remember thinking not so much that he'd be a complete shitshow but rather that his ceiling was extremely low. Which I guess has turned out to be true in addition to the shitshow part.

I'm grateful for anyone's sacrifices for our country. However, introducing his PTSD into the discussion in order to defend himself on a sports discussion board is a bit much. Is everyone supposed to think "Oooh, Jason has PTSD so I can't tell him he's an idiot?"

Most people with PTSD and other service related issues won't advertise it like that, especially on a sports board. I don't know what he was thinking putting something like that up there.

That being said, I hope that he has contacted the VA and getting the help and support that he needs.

Buzzout before it was cool. The Stetson game sealed it after the pathetic press conference. Scout premium was not a place for questioning Wellman. Deman and his posse were large and in charge.

I wrote Wellman an email the day the Bzzzz hire was announced and told him that it was a mediocre hire that would lead to nothing but mediocrity for Wake. He wrote back to tell me I would be proven wrong. I wish I had saved his email, because I'd like to send it back to him today with a few choice words.

Did it look something like this?

Mr. Awesome,

Thank you for your recent email about my decision to change basketball
coaches. Even though you do not agree with my decision, I appreciate
you taking the time to give me your thoughts. You obviously care a
great deal about our program and want it to excel for which I am very
appreciative.

In naming Jeff [Redacted] as our new coach, I am extremely excited about
our future. Jeff possesses the qualities that will produce the type of
program that all of our fans and supporters will enjoy. He has an
excellent staff, retaining assistant coaches Jeff Battle and Rusty
LaRue, as well as Walt Corbean as our Director of Basketball Operations.
In addition, we are excited to welcome Mark Pope as an assistant coach.

Jeff is off to a good start with our returning players and recruits. He
is known as an excellent coach who understands his players and gets them
to play aggressively every game by building relationships with them that
goes far beyond their basketball careers. Many of the great coaches and
players have commented about Jeff coming to our program and I've
attached those quotes as I think you will be interested in reading them.

Thanks again for your enthusiasm about our program. I look forward to
enjoying our future successes with you.

Go Deacs!

Most people wouldn't tell several hundred total strangers that they prayed about their favorite college basketball team's problems either.

My timeline -

1 Bought six books to the AACT and went to one game - that shit-show against Miami.

2 I coached JTT's younger cousin on an AAU team. Heard from him that Dino was fired. Said Dino told him Wellman wanted to change the program direction (no more one and dones, wanted 4 years players that represented wake well on and off the court), Dino refused (takes NBA talent to win in ACC), RW fired him.

3 Surprised when Dino was let go, but not upset - see #1

4 Never heard of Buzz, but willing to give him the benefit of the doubt/

5 Stetson, Presby, etc and the way he blamed the players for every loss made it hard to keep an open mind

6 Buzz interview where blamed the fans for the atmosphere around the program (only people who have never been successful have a problem with the program, because successful people know it takes time) was the last straw for me. Buzz out, ever since.

For the record, I think buzz is kind off a douche, but I don't hate him. He took a dream job making $1.3 mm a year and got in over his head. RW is the real person to blame for this shit show. Like others, I don't mind the initial mistake - recruiting top coaches to Wake can be tough. He is to blame for not ending this fiasco much sooner than now.

Ron Wellman

LOL. Some of the same themes, but I had met him before so his message telling me how wrong I was was a little more personalized (and pointed). Or maybe he had different staffers writing responses to all the emails he got that week.

News for jason: the Wake fanbase isn't about to "explode." Actually, it's more unified than I ever recall. Except for a couple outliers, EVERYONE wants bzz gone. I do not know a single person who supports his being here. Period. End of story.

My timeline: I was surprised when I read that Wellman was considering bzz. Very little effort was required to learn about his record online, and then I was APPALLED! Wrote Wellman before the hire was announced, pleading with him to step away from the bzzdaster. Nothing I've seen has changed my mind one iota. It was a terrible hire and, even though I have a hard time trusting Wellman now, I can't imagine there's anyone out there who would muck things up worse than bzz has. Basically, the only way is up, (I hope.)

Exactly. The casual fans bowed out a while ago, apathy has killed off a few more...the only folks left are the hardcore fanbase, and they are damn near 100% unified. The lunatic fringe are running around claiming that they are "better fans", but there's only a few of them, and they are led by a guy who does nothing but highlight their lunacy in public by sitting behind the bench with his silly cut-off shirt.

Was Georgia Tech on Saturday rock bottom? When it became impossible to. bring [Redacted] back another year?
