Disco Dan Talks FSU Debacle

I think that's too generous. I suspect Wellman always wanted [Redacted].

With Rusty as coach in waiting. He found the one loser who would let the AD pick his assistants.

It is certainly possible. Keeping up appearances may have meant showing interest in more top guys.
Wellman had to perform serious mental gymnastics to convince himself, or anyone else, that bzz was the guy. He expended a ton of personal capital getting buy in from the important people.

I still believe that, after getting turned down by his lead candidates, RW sort of panicked and called up his old buddy, Bz. He promised him assistants and 4 full years if he would just come to Wake. And he kept his word.
I just hope he didn't promise Bz 5 full years.

I've been told that [Redacted] was on Wellman's famed "shortlist" of candidates to replace Skip if he would have taken the Pitt job and was still on the list at the time of Skip's death, but that was after he took the Colorado job.

That seems highly unlikely, as Buzzy had just completed his first, 17-65 season with the Nuggets at that point, and had been out of the college game for 15 years. Maybe when Skip was thought to be a candidate for the Cincy job in 2006?

Meh, I agree with Codi to some extent. The players around him are simply not good enough. And that blame obviously falls on Buzz.

Codi can't shoot a lick himself and isnt quick enough to be an effective point guard

He had been on Ron's "list" for a while...would have been offered after Skip passed but he had just taken the Colorado job.

And you somehow manage to turn into an even bigger twat with each post.

Sig, what do you think happens if Ron says behind closed doors to his higher up, "No, I'm committed to him for year five."

jhmd is going to be a sad puppy when Bzzz gets fired in a few weeks. He is quite invested in his pet theory.

Nothing would make me happier, but I suspect we're going to find out how strong Ron's pimp hand is before all is said and done.

Honestly, the way he behaves and operates it really doesn't seem like he has any higher ups to answer to. The fans are the only ones who have ever asked him to be accountable and look how he responded? The president doesn't care about sports and the board is probably just a bunch of middling old people and big fish in a small pond who are just happy to have a title and access to something.

They operate in a bubble. like a little cult. Which is why their response to criticism is so poor and peculiar. I honestly don't know how we maintained 20+ years of success prior to this bzz-aster. maybe we just lucked into it.

I used to like talking about getting a new coach but that now even seems grim. Who the fuck would want to take over this mess? Look at the roster! when this 8 man class becomes seniors, you have no schollys to offer that year. That means you basically have to go out and recruit a starting lineup. Its bs.

It's like a crackhead put this thing together.

I think the need to recruit a whole new lineup would be very attractive especially since the NC 2016 class is supposed to be strong.

That's my point. Hatch is going to fire the head of the selection committee during(?!) the tournament? Taking bets on that one...

The new coach is actually getting a pretty decent hand. He's getting handed a team of upperclassmen that should be a tournament team. That'll allow him to build momentum like the team Odom handed Skip. That rising junior class could have three or four transfers to free up scholarships and not miss a beat.

For serious, I think that if that happened, Mr. Wellman would be forced to make the choice of "him or me." And I think it would be him.

I'm not the most well-connected person on this board, but I have it on relatively good authority that i will never come to that. But you don't know until you know, I guess.
