WF @ Duke - Time to Break the Streak

It's tough to maintain mental focus when you are losing by 25 points almost immediately.

So Devin really has one rebound and no points? How is that even possible?

Devin's last 5 games:

2/14 @ UVA - 3 pts, 0 FG attempts, 5 rebs, 16 mins
2/17 @ ND - 26 pts, 11 rebs, 27 mins
2/25 vs UVA - 2 pts, 5 FG attempts, 4 rebs, 15 mins
3/1 vs PITT - 6 pts, 6 FG attempts, 6 rebs, 27 mins
3/4 @ DUKE - 0 pts, 2 FG attempts, 1 reb, 20 mins

So stick it up your ass, you goddamned motherfucker. I'm getting sick of being accused of injecting Bob Knight into posts when someone else brings his name up when I make a post and I am simply responding it to it! Don't get pissed at me because your sorry-ass team and coach isn't worth a shit and neither of them acts like they give a damn.

Actually you bring up Bob Knight every single time you post. Don't have the man's name as your screen name and then act like a child when people mention his name in association with you.

And since Wake is apparently not "your" team, please take your sad tired pathetic act somewhere else. If you can't do that, seek the professional help that you so desperately need.

So Wellman's gone, right? Football and basketball have shown that the last four years didn't build a foundation. Women's basketball just squandered four years of the best player in program history. Baseball presumably will fall short again. He's got to be gone.

Yeah, Devin acting like a complete idiot and shaking his head and yelling "He can't guard me!" after every basket earlier in the season when we played Duke wasn't the smartest idea. Probably shouldn't have pissed off the #1 pick of this year's draft.

It really is all Ron Wellman's fault. I just hope he hasn't doomed the program for good.

I don't think anyone at the University really cares. The fans, many alums I know, and folks here certainly do but I sense no one at the University has or will hold Wellman accountable

This. I think athletics is a necessary nuisance for this administration.

What you are saying is code for "This is where power conference college basketball is today. The only way to compete is to sell your academic soul and go after non-students to come and play on a temporary basis until they can leave for a professional team.."

And the saddest thing about this is that you are probably right. Or maybe that's the 2nd saddest thing about it. The saddest thing is that so many alumni actually want their school to do this. The very concept of "college athletics" doesn't even exist anymore at the power conference level. They are all basically just semi-pro teams temporarily wearing a college jersey.

If that's really the only win to win now, the price is too high for me.

Contrary to popular belief and setting the UNC scandal (and the KY and Louisville programs) aside, not all 4 & 5 star players are stupid. There are some pretty smart kids coming out of HS who also happen to be damn good ball players. They go to schools like Wake when Wake is good, otherwise, they make the smart choice and go to a school with good academics and a chance to win something.

Don't let facts get in the way of BKF's old man worldview where colleges are being overrun by ignorant thugs who are taking spots away from deserving students.

Yeah. Pretty sure that is what I intended to convey when I said, "Wellman, Wellman, Wellman and Wellman."

But, of course, he won't be.

Enabled by Hatch of course.

I think you have these two reversed with respect to cause and effect. I rather think Hatch has de-emphasised athletics to make Wake a more "academic" institution. Wellman is carrying the policy. Hatch's mentor at Notre Dame, the late Fr. Hesburg did this at Notre Dame. Turned a men's "jock school" into a coed academic institution. Problem is, Wake was not Notre Dame with respect to athletics, so a drop from what Wake was is to way below what Notre Dame dropped to. This would also correlate with the tightened admissions standards and policies.

Also, the greater difficulty any student (not just athletes) has in transferring to Wake from junior colleges. Wake used to be relatively friendly to Juco transfer students in the student body. Apparently baseball was doing to well with these - many HS baseball players go Juco because of MLB draft rules - then transfer for their last two years. Wake used to get some of these. Paying half for Wake for one or two years is more financially do-able than four years.

Here's some humor from last night. I was at my older son's baseball practice but here are 7 emails I received from my 8 year old son during the game

8:23 pm - Wake down 12-5 5 minutes into the game

8:24 pm - 5 turnovers

8:25 pm - For Wake (as if he had to explain)

8:27 pm - (Here's the kicker) It hurts my eyes but I bet you would be MAD!!!!

8:30 pm - 6 turnovers 20-5 Duke

8:34 pm - 2 times miss both free throws (I assume we missed four FTs in a row)

8:35 pm - 7 turnovers

And with that final missive he went to get the good scotch out of daddy's liquor cabinet bc when I got home he was passed out on the couch with a half empty bottle and a big puddle of drool on the pillow.

This team can't shoot.
That having been said, what I saw was a game in which no Wake Forest player emerged to take the role of leader.
As for Devin, he is [to borrow a phrase] a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma.

Why play man defense against a far better team?
Do we not have a zone?
Or some trick stuff like triangle and two, box and one.

Yah. Can't shoot.

Duke shot 52% from 3, and you're suggesting a zone?
