I disagree with you
Larry the Cable Guy says hello.
an extremely successful comic is your counter example?

Amy Schumer is the most successful female comedian in the world right now, and of her generation.Oh I'm sorry. I thought we were talking about good vs bad comics.
Not comics that are successful because they play to the absolute lowest common denominator.

I don't know if its considered "trying too hard", but Schumer has definitely become a one-note, "I'm going to say things that hopefully will shock you because I'm a woman" comic.
right, i thought ITC's argument was that capitalism shows all the good comics get rewarded with success
because dumb people don't deserve comedy? weird take
there is still good comedy for dumb people
Do you think children's book authors are "good" authors?
comedy tends to be pretty capitalist; bad comics don't get multi-season tv shows, a movie and extended light in the cultural zeitgeist
again, just because you don't find the Larry the Cable Guy character funny, doesn't mean Dan Whitney is a bad comedian
my argument is very straightforward: this is a bad take

And just because someone has given him cash to make multiple terrible movies, doesn't make him a good comedian.
what's your argument? rubes like reductive, redneck-y jokes. if you think it's super easy, go try it.
you guys are ridiculous. the evidence of what makes a good comic is everywhere. it takes dedication and meticulous crafting, regardless of the subject matter.
