Standup Comedy

kevin james is bigger than most things that is true oh look he fell over on a segway

adam sandler doesn't make the top 20 of all time list? big stretch

but you would put him in the good category, despite just cashing checks the past whatever number of years?

You are either bad at reading, or comprehending, or both.

again, just because you don't find the Larry the Cable Guy character funny, doesn't mean Dan Whitney is a bad comedian

I *think* I remember that him and (at least) one of the other dudes in that crew had some very great bits before they went full schtick

now I guess I'm going to have to look for them

Adam Sandler on a top 20 stand-up comic list? His stand-up wasn't that great.

Yeah I think that's true for a lot of very funny people. Some of the funniest performers ever never did standup.

this discussion reminds me of when some moron said that gene wilder wasn't all that funny after he died, and RJ compared him to Morton's steakhouse or something.

This should probably go in the unpopular opinions thread but I don't find Mel Brooks movies particularly funny. I think they are all enjoyable films but don't laugh out loud or anything. Probably a generational thing, I crack up at Tommy Boy, Happy Gilmore etc.

found it.

i'd never say mel Brooks is unfunny or that adam sandler is better (lolz) but I'm not super into Mel's movies. Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles are great and Spaceballs is fun but the humor/style is definitely of its time. :noidea:

oh hell

i dunno, Adam Sandler is a pretty successful guy for having no impact on comedy

Being successful doesn't mean being good. Making money also doesn't have anything to do with having a long-term impact.

Adam Sandler has a net worth of $300M. Meryl Streep is worth $45M. He must be 600% better as an actor.

Adam Sandler is supposed to be a great guy. He's been quite successful, but he'll be an asterisk in movie history at best.

I think you're wrong about that

Despite the #narrative, people don't fail upward

Making money does not equal being good.

it does if people pay you for your services.

you can fool people once, maybe twice but not forever

He's relevant to this era and nothing more.

To say it's that simply money=success is ridiculous.

haha, i think we're done here

so it appears itc has been confusing commercial success for talent for a lot longer than this thread

people who think idiots can be successful are themselves idiots

counterpoint: so many god damn things but i'm tired because brian colangelo the idiot ruined my day
