Official OGBoards Golf Thread

Got it secondhand but was told no playing on the weekend at all for three years.

Looks like they have two courses. My mistake. Was thinking of four rounds played in a tournament rather than two courses.

That makes more sense. I've been out there and was wondering if the other two courses were offsite or something.

No golf on the weekend for three years is brutal. I'm in the process of joining Royal Dornoch and will be a Struie member for three years which means I have to pay like 50% of the guest fee on the championship course and don't have access to member tee times. can still play on weekends but it doesn't really matter that much since i won't be going to scotland more than once every year or two.

Where do you live/play now? Why wouldn't you try to join a nice club in/around DC (or Pinehurst) rather than one in Scotland?

Live in DC. Was invited to "consider" Belle Haven CC last year but I don't plan on staying in DC too much longer so it wouldn't make sense. I'm a member at CCNC in Pinehurst and have family access to Pinehurst and Pine Needles/Mid Pines. If I move to Charlotte next I will certainly join somewhere there.

I pulled the trigger on Dornoch because 1. it is my favorite course in the world 2. my dad is a member and it is a good excuse to make trips over there with him 3. it's a honor to be asked, not many top ten courses in the world asking me to join and 4. it costs less than $1k a year to be an international member under 40.

I feel ok with my DC public course rotation of Whiskey Creek, Potomac Shores, Worthington Manor, Blue Mash, Lake Presidential, etc plus I get invites out to Belle Haven and Chevy every now and then. A friend of mine's (super duper rich) dad is a member at Chevy, Congressional, and Burning Tree. He keeps promising me a round at the latter two but we'll see if that ever happens.

Yeah, my friend was telling me that there's a good number of local muni's around DC that make joining a club less necessary. The public and public/private options in Charlotte are less robust.

The main problem with the DC options is that they are all at least 45 minutes away. Even the ones that are 10 miles northeast of the city take me 45 minutes because there aren't any highways to get there.

Everything in DC is at least 45 minutes away.

Eh, I live in Adams Morgan and I feel like everything I need is very close. If I do want to play golf that is close I can get to Haines Point or Langston in ten minutes. I'm actually a Langston defender, the back nine there would solid if they spent a little more money.

If you need someone to put a few rounds on one of your memberships to keep up appearances I'll volunteer as tribute

Wow, very cool. Good for you. Let me know if you ever need a 4th.

I basically stopped playing golf after living in LA. 6 hour rounds. 15 minute wait per hole. They let 5somes out.

Or come up with 300k for a membership.

Tim, my Pinehurst trip was awesome. CCNC is one of my favorite courses ever. I preferred Cardinal to Dogwood which seems to be a minority opinion.

No. 8 was in great shape when we played. It was tough but fair. Pine Needles had a lot of construction going on, but the layout was superb. This was my first time down there and we already plan to go back. Pinehurst is a special place for someone (or a group of someone's) who love golf.

Awesome stuff. In that case, it certainly makes sense. If you do move to Charlotte, let me know. My club isn't one of the "elite" in town (Quail, Charlotte, Myers Park), but it has awesome reciprocals throughout the Carolinas, and is going to go through a huge renovation in the next year.

Play Dormie Club next time you're in Pinehurst. It's interesting and fun.
Site of my famous 37-52...got a little cocky at the turn 😜

Yeah. I thought it was 36. I've played both. It's a fantastic track and a great clubhouse. Maybe they have reciprocity somewhere.

Although may have an in come the time I'm 50. We design the clubhouses for all the places in town.
