For Immediate Release: The Wake Forest Review's response to Wake Forest University's statement on our recent article
The recent statement by Wake Forest University is incredibly disappointingAS WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO SAY ANYTHING WE WANT ABOUT HATEFUL, UNAMERICAN, COMMIE LIBS, GAYS BUT NO ONE SHOULD BE MEAN TO US. Conservative students across the country are faced with discriminatory actions like this every day. By not addressing the issue, and blaming it on an "oversimplification of a complex situation", Wake Forest has neglected to take any form of responsibility for their actions and inability to treat all students fairly.
Based on this response from Wake Forest University regarding the incident involving Digital Director Ryan Wolfe, the Wake Forest Review asks that the University change its Code of Conduct to be in line with the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.
While we do condemn hateful and bigoted speech DIRECTED AT US BUT NOT BY US, we respect, support, and defend the free speech rights of all Wake Forest students. The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education has given Wake Forest a red light rating due to their strict campus posting and verbal abuse and harassment policies. This incident shows that University Administrators cannot be trusted in equally enforcing content-based speech policies.
