This is also true, but there are only so many places in the US where you can get great Mexican food. The (sort of?) irony of all of this is Chicago is definitely one of them.

Instead of spending $500k/unit to house the homeless in LA, why don't we just pay 3rd world countries to house them for like $20k, and we give the country an extra $30k on top so they profit.

It's a good idea, but the limiting factor is environmental considerations. We'd burn too much carbon flying all of LA's homeless to the third world countries. The plan is to turn LA into a 3rd world country and cut out the middle man. So far it's going great.

It's a smog addled, traffic snarled, often too hot, dirty shithole that costs too much to live in. Give me any east coast city over LA anytime.
 
I don’t know about cost of new construction in LA, but I’m sure there are plenty of vacant units/hotel rooms.

In most places it’s actually cheaper to house people than it is to cycle them through ERs and jails and provide services.
 
I don’t think I’ve ever thought of LA as being that smoggy any more but maybe I’ve just had good luck on all my visits.
 
And LA County has an unemployment rate of over 8%. Bus tickets to places that need workers are way cheaper than housing.
