MBB Game 30: BC Eagles @ LJVM - 7 pm Tuesday - ESPNU

I mean this team is really flawed post and the dude from state dominated us in the post because we don't really have any post game we need to get a center
Hildreth is our post game. Other than lob dunks.

Earlier post a page or two back said below…if true sounds like a given we are in 8-9

“If we lose Saturday and BC wins then there will be a 3-way tie including Cuse

Cuse swept BC so the H2H would be

Cuse 3-0 8 seed
WF 1-2 9 seed
BC 1-3 10 seed”

If we do beat Syracuse however, that likely sets up a 8/9 game with wake/BC.

Teams figured out how to defend him. Guards who can’t shoot don’t belong in the ACC.
I have learned that it is pointless to discuss Cam’s flaws on this board. Too many Cam defenders on here that make excuses for him.

This season the excuse is he is only a sophomore, he still has two more years to develop. Next season they will say wait until he is a senior because he will have another year of experience as well as a bigger frame. After his senior year, fans will still find ways to build up his WFU career, maybe comparing him to a LD Williams or Jamal Levy (The players who do all the dirty work and stats don’t show up in the box score).

cam took a big step forward and then really regressed. he will be held to a higher standard next year.

There will be far better players available in the portal. Whether we can land one remains to be seen.

We currently have 0 spots available for transfers. Yes, I expect we will have our own transfers out - but if no one chooses to leave….thats frightening.

Gang, I want to fuckin gag on Forbes' post game comments!!!! Who's fuckin job is it to make sure the team "competes"???? This guy hasn't got it for this level, and the sooner we get rid of him the better. We won't do it, because we're too chicken shit to do what must be done NOW!

I disagree. I'm not sure I see another coach out there that I think could do a better job than Forbes has and would jump at the Wake Forest job if it was offered. I think Forbes has far exceeded my expectations for the last two years. Yes, this team has shit the bed in more than a few of our six games that we ended up losing "at the last minute by two points." But I am very thankful for what Forbes has been able to do. Would not trade him for any other coach in the ACC with the possible exception of Tony Bennett. We just have to keep improving and we'll get over the hurdle and be back in the Sweet Sixteen in no time. Maybe even catch that magical run to the Final 4 that we've all been dreaming about since Childress.

I don’t see anything to support this reality

I’ve been disappointed that we haven’t made a Final Four run since way before Childress. The first time Wake basketball crushed me was when Frank Johnson inexplicably lost to Boston College in 1981. Since then it’s been year after year of disappointment. Except for 1984. That team did about all they could.

Torvik says WF had a 94.6% win probability up 40-31 with 16:52 to play

Then BC went on a 27-3 run over 7:22 to go up 58-43; at that point they had a win probabilty of 89.4%

I don't recall ever seeing a run like that deep in a game. They scored 27 points in 13 possessions, including 5 layups (2 of them 3-point plays) and 3 made 3's

WF shot 3-8 on FT's, 0-6 from the field, 3 turnovers during that span

Lol I got a Tuesday and all day Wednesday tickets for a total of like $60. I know we aren’t playing past Wednesday
I’ve been a Deacon fan since my buddy in High School Lee Foye was recruited by Carl Tacy and Ernie Nestor. I can count on one hand how many teams that had enough grit to withstand the kinds of runs like last night, why? Because like last year when we really needed a bucket you have to have a player that knows how to maneuver around the basket and either convert or get fouled. We simply do not have that type player like Laravia. That’s why we’ve settled for 3-point shots or on occasion a drive to the basket by Hildreth and Ty. Forbes is in the unique position to know this. Before Monsanto got hurt he was consistent enough to keep the defense honest, with him out the defense now doesn’t really need to guard the 3 point line consistently.
We got more out of this team this year than expected. We had some really bad loses like last night that doomed our post season opportunities. And we don’t have the talent to win 5 games in a row

How will Hildreth be fine? Check out his shooting stats for the last 10 games. He. Can’t. Shoot.
Shooting for the last 10 games.

1-6 v BC
1-9 v ND
5-8 v NCSU
5-9 v MIA
5-9 v GT
2-9 v UNC
4-8 v ND
3-8 v Duke
5-15 v NCSU

So, as I said, the last two games he was horrendous. Before that, he had 2 poor shooting games of the remaining 8. Yeah, that's 4 bad out of 10, his worst stretch of the season for sure, made worse by the last 2.

We know he isn't a good shooter, which is why he doesn't shoot much. Pretty sure he knows it too, which is why his high in attempts for 3 pointers this year is 5 in a game-- one game he went 2-5 and another 1-5. His second most is 4, which he has done once. So he isn't killing us with bad 3 point shooting. It's those missed 2 footers and layups that hurt, shots which would be easier if he had any help in the post at all. If he had hit half of those this year, he'd be well over 50% for the year (as it is, he's at 46%).

Hildreth would be a great weapon if we actually had somebody else on the team who could do what he does. He's our best post player and our best rebounder and plays harder than anybody except for maybe Ty. And he's 6'4". That just can't happen with a P5 program. And that isn't his fault. We have a team of guys with limitations. Carr is too weak and timid to be a power forward, and not quite diverse enough to be a stretch. I do think he will get there though. He's a good player and will only get better. Our center game consists of dunk lobs to Marsh. I love that, but he isn't effective defensively or as a rebounder. Don't even get me started on Bradford. We know what Monsanto is, but that's pretty much his game. Three ball from anywhere at anytime and not much beyond that. Klintman is very limited in his game right now. Does some things well for a spell, then looks like a freshman for long stretches. I'm not as high on him as some others, but there is no reason why he can't become a 15/8 type of player by the end of next year-- but he isn't close right now. And as I have stated a lot in recent days, we have zero depth on top of all those limitations. With all these limitations and lack of depth, we need everybody to be their cog in the wheel and have very little room for error. That is why we have seen this team get out to 20 point leads and then have them evaporate. When they're good they're very good and when they're not they're like a JV squad. I can't think of any Wake team quite like it.

Yeah Cam's a guy who generally knows his role and given the team makeup is trying to do a little bit too much. He's solid getting down the lane, shoots 2s at the same clip Tyree does and draws a good number of fouls. He needs to cut down the turnovers. I don't care if he's a great outside threat as long as he isn't taking that many - that's not something we really need him doing anyway when we had a healthy Monsanto with DW and Tyree also as outside options. Obviously now that we've lost a top 3 offensive player who made the most threes, we're not in an ideal spot

He'd be great in D2 with what he does, he just can't by that type of player against most teams we play. I was very disappointed in Carr a couple of times last year, he had the ball in the low post, guarded by a guy 4 to 5 inches shorter and never even looked like he thought about trying to score.
