GT Game Thread

Wanted it more? Really?
Don’t know if you’re being sarcastic or not but that’s absolutely what I saw. Mitch aside if we cut down on sloppy errors and lack of effort we win that. Wouldn’t be pretty, but would still win it. Georgia Tech just had more dogs out there Saturday night.

Good last few posts

I'm realizing it might actually take at least 2 full days before a game thread's posts can normalize and converge on more reasonable communication 😂

If you go back and look at my posts and others' posts, I think you will see that most of us have been quite rational and consistent on this topic.

Griffis is not the guy, Kern may not be the guy but something has to change and, if Kern implodes, we're about where we are now.

I don't think that's all that hyperbolic or unhinged. It's pretty obvious at this point.

This is the truth. It quite literally can’t be any worse. There is no harm in trying him out.

I mean there is still also a slim chance that Griffis could eventually be the guy but that sitting and watching Kern play is what would be most beneficial for him. As Mitch’s coach said…it’s four weeks now and the clock isn’t getting any better.

So in summary. We were in the ACC championship game two years ago. We either encouraged or couldn’t convince otherwise our ACC record holding quarterback to leave. In the meantime with all the positive vibes and press we were getting, not to mention one of the best receiving corps in ACC history, we end up with Griffis and Kerns as the only options we have. Took about two series against Elon for me to see griffis is not good enough. This is a colossal failure by the coaching staff. There should be a really tough conversation between Currie and clawson at the end of the season.

This one is pretty easy imo - we know what we have in Justice Ellison, and that's a sensational pass blocker.

Although is that why Tate got into the game on the final two offensive plays before the Griffis pick?
Appeared to me Claiborne got dinged up so that is likely reason he did not return

This is a hard one.

One, it is extremely likely that Kern would not be the meaningful improvement we are hoping for. Clawson wants to win more than he wants to play Griffis. I think, based on Clawson's comments so far, he's been trying to save this season as opposed to writing it off and trying to either pull a rabbit from the hat (much better Kern, despite prior data) or plan for the future (which we can't really do with Kern because of his class/age). This makes sense to me, and I agree that our best chance to turn this around is with Griffis. Not that I think it's likely; just less unlikely than tossing Kern out there and hoping.

Two, having said that, we need to see substantial improvement to have any sense of comfort with Griffis. At Clemson is not a great game to break in a new QB, but we have a bye week.

On the whole: yes, Griffis has been almost indescribably bad. But also, yes, I think our best chance at salvaging this season is to hope Griffis can play better. Not a great position, but it's where I think we are.

One or two (because, Clemson) more awful games, and I think Clawson will make a change. Likely not with Kern, but with someone other than Griffis.
Kent: Greetings from Che Raw.

@cookoutdeac watched the first three series with Kern in the spring game.

---First series moved the ball 80 yards with quick pocket passes and a good pass out of the mesh. Turnover that would have been called an incomplete pass if they used video review as his arm was going forward.

--- second series punt

--- third series 60 yard TD pass

give me Kern or give me death!

Wolford sat and was eventually the guy.
Hartman sat and was eventually the guy.

Why are people so scared of what seems to be a common progression of Wake QBs?

Good post. Also, not recognizing the talent of the future Doak Walker and unanimous All-American KWIII was somewhat of an eye-opener. So, maybe he wasn't the greatest blocker in the world. Interesting how the Seattle Seahawks see that differently. Perhaps our "challenge" to identify "quality talent" has now landed us in this position that you cite. It's very concerning.

Think about that. The most heralded football player to wear black & gold eventually wore green & white and we let him walk right out of the door.

God the Walker narrative has just gotten out of control. He actually had more carries than CBS over two seasons!!! Reading this board you’d think the guy was sitting on the bench his whole time here.

Wolford threw 13 picks in his first 8 games as a freshman, he looked small and panicky - very similar "we know he's not the guy" stuff got thrown around back then.

No question Mitch is playing poorly, but all these posts writing him off are ridiculously overconfident.

It really does mimic the bullshit Walker narrative...

Wolford was playing behind an FCS level O-Line. Griffis’ line is not that bad. He’s just making them look bad.

Okay. Please provide us with the correct narrative. How did it really happen? Why did he leave for Michigan State given so much playing time? I really would like to know.

Still wondering the same. :(

This narrative is far more bullshit. Wolford was 18 (turned 19), with one summer in the program, probably the worst OL in the nation, and very little skill position talent.

Mitch is 22, this is his 4th year in the program, with an experienced but mediocre offensive line, and a great WR corps.
