Notre Dame, 3:30pm NBC/Peacock

It doesn’t seem to be that way for bball…
Most of the basketball transfers have fit into those two categories.

Walton, Sy, Williamson, Appleby, were all grad guys.
Monsanto, Carr, Ituka, Miller, Canka all arrived with three years of eligibility.

Forbes seems to be a guy that puts his head down and gets to work. If anyone should be complaining it's him. He took over a dumpster fire, with crap facilities, got shafted by the committee two years ago, and seems to be having a lot of injury issues. But he just gets to work. Dave seems more content to complain- but maybe I'm just salty right now
Sounds a lot like what Clawson stepped into a decade ago. I don’t question Clawson’s efforts, I think he just made a huge mistake in his confidence in Griffis and he’s having a hard time finding footing in the NIL age.

Sometimes a guy is completely misevaluated. Or, maybe Griffis has the football equivalent of stage fright. Plays great in practices. For whatever reason, he doesn't perform well in games.

Yeah, I don’t for a minute think Griffis looked anything like this in practice or he wouldn’t have been given the vote of confidence. Game time just didn’t click for him.

After a few underperforming games, practice shouldn’t have mattered. That was Clawson’s big mistake.

Both backup QBs outperformed Griffis when it matter and Clawson stuck with Griffis. We don’t need to know what happened in practice to know Clawson messed up.

Game Story on Wake vs Notre Dame ft. some interesting quotes from Dave Clawson regarding Hartman, the kicking game and practice carrying over to the field.

Right. But that was ten years ago. At some level he's been a victim of his own success, I suppose. But what are the issues currently that we're at such a huge disadvantage? He can put his head down and get to work. Or mope around about how much we stink and how we're at some huge disadvantage in every way. I see a dramatically different landscape at Wake than when I was there. I know the nil stuff sucks. But you sell what you have. And we have a ton to offer

We lost to Gtevh, Vtech and Duke. Which one of them is maximizing NIL money?

Tulane, JMU and Liberty are all ranked and none of their coaches are talking about being poached. You play against your competition and we are the worst in our conference this year.

Everyone is playing with the same set of rules, adapt or die.
We also lost to ND and FSU who are maximizing NIL. We have a personal connection to that.

Clawson’s system if in JMU Tulane and Libertys conference would last better due to not being as affected by NIL. They’re also ranked because they tend to play most of their games against their respective conference which is less affected by NIL.

This is no excuse for Clawson simply keeping it fair and it’s not apples to apples comparing coaching for JMU than Wake

Also if I’m clawson I’m going on a 2 day (maybe 3) bungee after the last game

I would argue that they are more affected by NIL. Every P5 school will be looking to grab these guys and they will have a desire to move up to most P5 offers. There's maybe 15 schools that are a definitive move up for Wake players and even then it takes 1.2 million to lure them away

We will struggle to keep Banks, Claiborne, Mustapha, and Gordon

Storm Duck left UNC and there are plenty of other examples where NIL is different at higher levels. It’s being used to lure AND retain players. If a guy can be recruited to a P5 then it’s insinuated they can ball at this level and therefore more likely to be poached

How do you know he’s not doing just that? Do you question Clawson’s work ethic? Haven’t heard any stories of him being off playing 18 holes while recruits were in town. Our bye week I know he went to 5 high schools games that weekends. Just because Clawson is vocal about things doesn’t mean he isn’t working hard.

Yeah there's like 10-20 teams that would be a move up for Wake players. But these teams are also looking at 120 FBS team's players and however many FCS in addition to highly rated recruits. I don't think it's going to be as hard to keep these players as you think it is especially coming off the year we did

I think you underestimate that. Leary left State for Kentucky, it’s not always for a move up too.

My impression as well. Clawson is working to retool his approach and put in the work to improve under the recently changed rules.

I suspect the recruiting algorithm he has been using is no longer producing the results it has in the past and needs tweaking.

Clawson is also vocally lobbying hard for the need to change some things that he perceives to be making recruiting and player retention not on a level playing field.

Clawson's semi-indirect references to NIL and "assembling teams" are not complaining. It's informing the 99% of Wake fans who don't read this board or follow sports as closely as we do that the game has changed and we need to step up or get left behind.

I think it's great he's telling it like it is. I wish they'd put the RTQ 800 number at the bottom of the screen.

You simply can't say Clawson needs to evolve (true) and then spin his evolving as complaining.

Yeah exactly. If anything, he’s saying he’s adapting to the new landscape.

This is a good example of working to keep the players you want.

Clawson will utilize the NIL to retain the players he wants and hunt down the Mustapha’s from lower divisions and build his own program that way. It’s not what he is used to or wants to do but he will adapt.
