WF MBB - Game 13 - @BC 7pm Tuesday ACCN

The most inexplicable was the missed likely flagrant 1 (or just common foul) when Zachary elbowed Cam in the face/neck. They had been jawing all night too so it was insane they didn’t even take a look at it.

Then the next play down they call an extremely weak 4th foul on Boopie. Just horrible officiating.

We certainly got the benefit of a couple calls too - the critical 1 and 1 Reid got to shoot was kind of a weird phantom call and the no-call travel on Cam’s fast break led to a huge PFred 3.

Nowadays calling traveling seems completely arbitrary to those of us who played and coached hoops before the rule was relaxed to NBA style. I can't help myself when I am sitting here watching the modern game but constantly reflexively think, hey that guy traveled. But the way they call it now he didn't. In fact, it's almost impossible to be called for traveling.

The elimination of the palming rule can also be similarly disconcerting. Today, they palm all the time and it's perfectly acceptable.

Man, I do wish that they had allowed us to palm and travel like that!

how bro didn't get that one rebound is mind boggling. i believe he will get better
There were 2 Keller rebounds and 1 Marion rebound where it was almost impossible NOT to get the board, but we tend to box out, then see other team come over the back to grab the ball.

He’s not in the way since ball is at our end and he’s imploring his team to play D. Trail official saw him and waved him back to his box. They are not looking to ruin a good non-contentious game with a T right there.
He was 20 feet on the floor, almost at mid-court, and a quick strip by the BC guard, like the one Boopie got in the first half against BC, and Grant would be stumbling backwards to get out of the way. Everyone saw he was so ridiculously intense at the thought of losing to Weak Forest at home, since we are one of the teams he expects to beat each year as we are not UNC/Duke/UVA, he basically lost his damn mind, and coaching while standing way out on the floor was T-worthy.

Waving him back was a joke, since he had already retreated to the bench by then and that "trail official" was over in front of our bench, so he had quite a while to watch Grant coaching his defense from way out ON THE FLOOR.

I largely don’t complain about officiating but tonight we really didn’t get many at all of the 50/50s as I said. There were plenty of contact calls that happened back to back that went uncalled on one end and then were whistles on the other. The wake bench was furious in the first half
Those refs last night sucked ass. Clueless for much of the game.

We got called last night for traveling several times that I never saw on the replays, as well as a time or two we did.

We've gotten to pretty good spots in January the last two years. I think this team is better and different, but it's time to show it the next few weeks. Can't lay any eggs in the next 3-4 weeks.

Did Keller come back in after he missed that put back layup off a Sallis miss? Forbes was absolutely irate at him. Got right in his face in the subsequent timeout and told him (in other terms) “you cannot miss that shot”

Earl Grant real complimentary of Boopie, post-game.

Also, Grant knew 4 of our 5 starters names, but did not know Carr's name. I bet he knows NOW.

If I make 1.8 million a year to coach basketball, and had 11 days off to prepare for the game, I'd know who Carr is.

They get ND twice this year, so I expect BC to finish around .500.

Essentially, good boxing out at both ends, now get much TOUGHER.

Not sure if it was before or after but at one point late in the game Keller came in to replace Carr and played alongside Reid. Thought it was interesting because it's been pretty consistent that Keller spells Reid and Marion spells Carr.

That's surprising considering Carr lit them up last season.

Keller and Marion getting tougher in the paint and this team gets even better.

Keller in good position initially, but getting pushed under basket, then he jumps off-balance, with 1 hand and gives up offensive board/putback. Keller's jumper looked smooth.

Marion, way too timid, not aggressive enough. Going for loose balls, but not getting them/grabbing them.

That can be corrected.
