Carry On bags

being someone who is under 6 feet tall i was in the "stop whining about recliners" camp, but this week I needed to get some work done on my flight so I could email it once I landed (landed at 3pm and had a 5pm deadline and had procrastinated) and the person in front of me reclined their chair and usair's shitty tray tables didnt have the little extension so i could move the tray table back some so I had to bend my laptop down and crane my neck to do the work. it was a 90 minute flight. that person probably didnt get an equal amount of utility from tilting back than the inconvenience created. i will be very cognizant from now on before reclining my seat.

Thank you.

Negrep.

Made it to USAir's Silver Preferred status last week and got an email out of the blue this morning informing me that I have been upgraded to First Class tomorrow evening for a flight from CLT to San Francisco.. Can't wait!

I had a dream last night where reclining seats in a plane played a part

TSA Pre is the best thing ever to happen to air travel.

It's glorious isn't it. Wait until one of these years when you hit gold or platinum. You get upgraded on pretty much every flight. Once you hit platinum they damn near let you fly the plane.

Incorrect. Airlines finally charging 400 pounders for 2 seats is the best thing ever to happen to air travel.

Well done. I'm in the same boat (just made status) and got an upgrade for my flight home from Austin on Friday, but not from CLT to CHS (not surprised about that). Very much looking forward to it.

Just booked a flight, and the only seats available were "preferred seats" costing an extra $24. Rather than pay that, I just left my seat selection empty. I figure if those are the only available seats, they can simply assign me there without me paying extra.

Probably a regional jet. Some don't have first class seating, and the ones that do only have 6 seats.

Yup, it's a CRJ, so with only Silver status, chances of an upgrade on that flight are minimal. There's a wide-body jet that flies CHS-CLT that I've usually ride, but on Tuesday morning there were probably 20+ preferred fliers that boarded after 1st Class, so it's a high demand flight. Thankfully it's a short flight.

Yeah, that's what will likely happen. I had that exact experience a month ago.

best thing ever to happen to air travel? the option to recline up to 4°

So true.

Last week I hit USAirways Platinum and Hilton Diamond on the same trip. I'll take it, but would prefer the alternative.

Okay travel gurus, here's my situation...

I booked a flight through Delta from CLT to Akron. My flight out on Thursday is 5 PM. After booking, I realized I needed to get on an earlier flight. I missed the 24 hour window to change. They now want to charge me $200 + cost of the flight. Basically I'd be paying double now. I called Delta. They agreed to cut the $200 in half. I still think that's steep. The Delta rep also suggested I look into their new Confirmed Stand-By program. It's $50, but there are some catches. I have to call midnight the day before my flight to have a chance on the flight. Has anyone used this new program or familiar enough to know how it works???

They are going to nick you for something. I would probably pay the hundred to be sure I was on the flight, if I absolutely couldn't get away with the later one.
