Wake Forest 2023 baseball season thread (Deacs end historic season with extra inning loss to LSU: Final record 54-12 and top 4 finish nationally)

At some point, baseball comes down to “see ball, hit ball”. We failed to put the ball in play and get on base.

I understand baseball more than any other US college sport, and yes I do know that the Sun Belt is better than the B10, as are most southern conferences. But yea, we’ll be dominating some wacky ass conference soon in most sports. If that’s your thing, great. If not, this was our last shot at a...

No worries from me. We’re about to dominate the Sun Belt or whatever conference we join in a few years. Don’t worry about this. We won’t be competing in this tournament in a few years when the SEC and B10 break away. We’ll be dominating whatever tournament we’re put in based on our football fanbase.

Conference Expansion: Stanford, California and SMU Join the ACC

It was a joke, that whole argument is pointless in this context. Dishonest payment schemes pail in comparison to realignment as far as problems impacting collegiate athletics.

Got it. So unless the professional league would ban endorsements, you’re acknowledging current NIL is just pay for play. Well said.

Conference Expansion: Stanford, California and SMU Join the ACC

This is the short term play if they can’t get out and renegotiate as a new conference. Annoying that it can’t be renegotiated for another decade because it’ll create more and more animosity amongst members as schools like Cincinnati make more than FSU.

Conference Expansion: Stanford, California and SMU Join the ACC

The thing is nobody cares about the law building and the chancellor knows that. Alumni and their money care about football at these schools. That's why they get the government to pay for academics and the alumni pay for athletics.

But if we don't schedule Army to make the Spicy Chili Cheeto Bowl how would we know that Dave Clawson is the second coming of Christ????

Conference Expansion: Stanford, California and SMU Join the ACC

My assumption is that the 8 schools simply want to form their own conference and then go from there. You inherently get better payouts when you cut the schools that are taking more than they give, such as Wake. If I were those 8 schools (and cared more about money than athletes, rivals and...

Conference Expansion: Stanford, California and SMU Join the ACC

I think more people care about maintaining rivalries, regionality, culture, etc. than a random school in Texas getting blown out in a natty because the B10 choked again. People will always watch college football, and what has been created is going to make so much money, no longer used to prop up...

Conference Expansion: Stanford, California and SMU Join the ACC

No, but they're already in those conferences and they're going to be pulled along (at least for now). If Wake just so happened to be in the SEC instead of Vandy Wake would be pulled along too. Those schools were in those conferences long before TV conglomerates decided the landscape of...

Conference Expansion: Stanford, California and SMU Join the ACC

Scroll back a few pages and find all you geniuses telling me why the ACC will last forever. Looks like I'm right about something here, not that this wasn't obvious starting almost a decade ago.

Conference Expansion: Stanford, California and SMU Join the ACC

When the top 40ish brands leave the NCAA altogether, the lack of bowl payouts and NCAA tournament revenue will change that and G5 will likely look a lot more like FCS than what it does now if I had to guess. In the financial sense, all schools and sports that are not football at about 40...

Conference Expansion: Stanford, California and SMU Join the ACC

Bragging about a bowl streak is like bragging about getting a participation trophy. Wake has a staggering one winning record in conference play under Clawson so I think it's safe to say we're not beating the crap out of anyone. But more importantly, it literally doesn't matter. FSU could never...
