    Washington Commanders?

The Redskins (owner George Preston Marshall) integrated at that time under pressure from the federal government who refused to allow them to build a new stadium in DC unless they integrated. They drafted Ernie Davis out of Syracuse and immediately traded him to the Browns for Bobby Mitchell...

    #16 NCSU at #12 Wake, 11/13 - 7:30p ACCN

WHEN WAKE FOREST SNUBBED LOMBARDI I first learned about this when I read a biography of Vince Lombardi twenty years ago and it is consistent with Duane Huffman's article.

Hammering Hank has passed away at 86

My encounter with Hank Aaron was toward the end of the baseball season in 1973 at the apartment complex, Farrington, west of Atlanta. Our downstairs neighbor was the Braves 3rd base coach, Connie Ryan (he and his wife were very nice to Carole and me including comping us with tickets to the last...

    Charlie Davis

I was sitting behind the guy who was as manic as you described. In one game, after a very personal tirade directed to the referee, the ref stopped play and tried to get him tossed. Gene Hooks who was sitting close by simply shook his head, refusing to eject him.

    Charlie Davis

As a class of seventy alum (and pep band member) I was fortunate to see CD in action as well as the Freshmen vs Gardner Webb game. If I recall correctly, Joe Menzer's book, "Four Corners" (which I highly recommend) addressed the Artis Gilmore incident which confirms that Artis did want to...

    RIP John Prine

John was one of a kind. One of my favorites that I planned to play a while ago, at our 50th wedding anniversary celebration this summer is "In Spite of Ourselves" that John sang with Iris DeMent.

    Most notorious crimes, by state

Regarding the "nut job ex-wife", Susan Newsom was in my class (1970) and worked, as I did, at the Library for at least a year. It was surreal to read about her in "Bitter Blood", as she was as quiet and unassuming a person as I have ever known.

Wake Forest Magazine - "Threads of Grace: Rodney Rogers"

As tragic and sad Rodney Roger's situation is, the article did a first rate job in showing his inner strength and character as well as the loyalty and love of his wife and his friends, Jody Puckett (70) and Jenny Robinson Puckett (71). A must read for those that love Wake Forest.

Wake Forest Football / Military Bowl Thread

If I recall correctly, Wake was pretty banged up in the second half of the season. With time to heal and rest up, I was cautiously optimistic we would put out a strong showing (Apologize if this has been covered already). I have been fortunate enough to attend most of the bowls (even the '79...

    Bowl projections

No idea how many Wake fans attend to the Military Bowl in Annapolis but, Having attended the Orange, Music and the last Military Bowl at RFK Stadium, Annapolis is a no brainer for me (Living only 45 minutes away doesn't hurt either). No way I would attend any of the other projected venues.

Wake getting 33 points this weekend

Whether the next two games result in ugly losses or competitive games, my hope is that the team emerges relatively healthy going into the BC game.

    RIP Arnold Palmer

A great tribute to Arnie by John Feinstein in today's Washington Post - worth the read.

    Indiana -5

I attended last year's game and it was obvious that that Indiana dominated at the line of scrimmage - men against boys. This year - even allowing for the level of competition so far it seems like our lines are much more physical and dominant. It will be interesting to see how we stack up in that...

2016 Masters Contest - BostonDeac wins!

There is an interesting book by Shane Ryan - Slaying the Tiger, a year inside the ropes - that profiles this current generation of players and is relevant to this thread. The author definitely has some strong positive and negative things to say about the main characters from Spieth, Rory, Day...

    ACC Tournament Thread NWT

Just be aware of DC's Scalper Police - they were very active the last time the ACC Tournament was there (and they don't care if it's $5 or $100)

    Campus Updates

Great Classic Pictures - Now I feel really old since I am in the 1968 Grove Stadium picture as a member of the band. Coincidently, I just rediscovered my freshman class blazer from 1966 this morning with Wake Forest College on the emblem.

    Campus Updates

I was in the marching band at that time and I don't think that is our formation. First of all, our director, Cal Huber, was not into messages. Second of all the letters were too neat and straight to be ours.

OFFICIAL WAKE - Hoosiers game thread

Was at the game and it was clear to me (using the eye test) that our offensive and defensive lines were overmatched physically by the bigger, older and more experienced Indiana lines ( Indiana was able to sustain drives on the ground and stop our run game, forcing us into high risk and more...

    hot dog toppings

This is definitely not a wistful trip down memory lane - the chili dogs sold at the old WS Memorial Coliseum (at the Wake BBall games) in the late 60's were messy (tissue thin napkins - one to a customer) and toxic to the lower intestinal tract.
