You answered my question then—you have not employed them yourself and have not ever matched the employees FICA out of your own pocket. That is what self employed people that run a business with employees have to do. It costs them the extra 7.65% of matching FICA out of their own bottom line.

Your employees did not cost you anything out of your pocket at all. Federal taxpayers paid for them.
Ref, I’m trying to understand your point about FICA here. Are you saying that employees should be paying the full FICA because requiring the employer to match is unfairly taking money away from the business owner, that FICA itself is an unfair tax that takes money away from owners and employees alike, or something else?

I look forward to a thoughtful and informed response that we’re sure to all agree with.

Just imagining reff stomping around the office bitching about how the heavier weight printer paper comes out of his pocket.

I also really enjoy the idea that he thinks the money is “out of his pocket”. Those people do the labor to make him the money to pay them and FICA. Their labor also generates extra money in excess of their salary that he get to keep for himself.

Complaining about that is such a weird thing to do.

I am self employed. I notice there is no mention of the 20% QBID deduction off the top.

I found that it more than offset the entire self-employment tax that I owed on my income.

This. It never once occurred to me to think of FICA or other labor-related costs for my employees as some kind of charitable favor I was doing them that I should be praised for. It's so backward - taxes come out of the employee bottom line, employers dictate salaries to ensure a profit. Incessantly bitching about FICA or any other known cost of doing business is akin to a kid selling lemonade for a nickel without realizing their parents had to buy the lemons.

especially considering that NC is an at will employment state.

Wow a reff post backfiring and revealing him to be an idiot? Never thought I’d see that day.

Business owners resentment for labor costs is fascinating to me. I wonder if Marx or Engels had anything to say about it. Maybe even Dubois had an opinion on it.

No, just saying that most people do not understand what their employers are actually doing. Everybody hates that “Fica guy” when it comes out of your check at 7.65% for SS & Medicare. Most people who work for another person or large company do not realize that that person or company has to match FICA as part if being the employer. Just part of being in business and keeping SS in business so to speak.

But a small employer like most of us were, and let’s say you had a payroll of $100,000, that costs you $7650 per year out of your pocket. (Not counting any other benefits you paid your employees such as group health and retirement/401k).

The reff hates the costs of actually doing business and taking care of your employees.

I did love the Trump tax cut that helped all Americans and gave all of us small business owners the 20% pass through deduction. I noticed you didn’t give Trump any credit for that one. Hmmmmmm

He and the other GQPers get full credit for adding 30% to the debt with one stroke if a sharpie.
