Ongoing US GOP Debacle Thread: Seditious Republicans march toward authoritarianism

I also think you'll just see a decline in marriage rates in the first place. Turns out, people don't want to be locked into shitty relationships, who knew?!?!
It's an anecdote, but, Nicaragua outlawed divorce and abortion so now they have young populations that won't get married and lots of kids born to single moms.

We have a house guest (old friend of my wife) who’s pretty steeped in conservative talk radio nonsense. Prefers one of the other Republican candidates over Trump but if it comes down to Trump v Biden she’s definitely voting for Trump b/c Biden too old and feeble minded AND, most importantly, Biden’s likely to die in office if reelected and she mostly can’t imagine America suffering under a Harris presidency.

This is a very spry old lady who was briefly married in the 1960s and when freshly divorced struggled significantly due to not being able to obtain credit in spite of having a steady job and no credit unworthy indicators whatsoever except (back then) being a divorced woman.

But she’s all on board with Republicans.

Life is tough. Builds character

Saw the Liz Chaney interview with madow yesterday.

The gist of her book and message is that anyone that believes in democracy needs to step up against trump and the republican party as it currently is.

I realize plenty here claim to be anti trump but her message seems to be that no one can sit out because democracy is on the line. Think about that. She was sitting in the republican halls of power and saw first hand what they were planning. But, yes, keep voting for pubs down ballet as they support the guy you claim not to like. Cheney would still vote for, what I consider, terrible policies. At least she has principals that our average pubs no longer do.

Tuberville dropped his hold on military appointments.

What was ever Tuberville's reasoning? Seems like that would have been wildly unpopular in Alabama, so what was his deal?

He claimed it was about the military giving abortion healthcare access.

Additionally,

He's dumb.
He's an asshole.
He weakened American armed forces readiness.
He harmed military service members and their families.
The republicans only got upset with him when some of the public began to pay attention 350 ?? Ish

And...it's gotten him a lot of attention...he must be important.

And he's a dumb asshole, yes.

Stuck living in Red Alabammer here... although in the one purple section of the state...

Tubberville's reasoning was that the armed services covers abortion and will pay the expenses to transport service members elsewhere if they are in a state that doesn't allow it. They do this because service members don't get to make the ultimate decision as to where they are stationed and it isn't fair to not provide these services. He wanted this stopped so he was holding up the promotions. That is basically it.

Tubberville himself is basically an idiot, he has made it clear time and time again that he has no understanding of the constitution or laws of the land.

He was elected on a platform of "I stand with Trump." Wouldn't debate and has nothing else of substance to say... but he is conservative and footbally. Unfortunately, we have a better senatorial candidate still coaching in Tuscaloosa. Love or hate Saban, his politics are inline with the moderate democrats and it would be very interesting to see him run and be in the senate for a couple of terms.
