Rachel Dolezal

Oh goodie more PC millennial talk from well off white males. Keep up the classic conservative playbook 2&2.

In the world according to numbers, each race, class and gender should be free to blame well off white males for their problems. I believe that children are the future, teach them well and let numbers lead the way.

Some of our miscommunication may be coming from us using binary labels to describe this, when sexual orientation is best represented on a spectrum. Still though, I'm not clear on what you mean by choice? In your mind, what does it mean to "choose" to be gay? If a heterosexual person is not attracted to the same sex, how can they "choose" to be gay?

I didn't say choose "to be gay." I said choose "to be/live as a homosexual." My homosexual cousin and I were discussing this and as a good liberal I was advocating away, denouncing anyone who dared claim that people 'choose' to be gay. And he basically said look man everyone has varying degrees of homosexual attraction in them. Some have zero, some have 100%, and a great many are somewhere in the middle. For many in the middle, they can choose to live as a homosexual, a heterosexual, an asexual, a pansexual, bisexual, whatever. So there are those who choose the lifestyle when they could choose another and live in happiness.

my mother-in-law's good friend believes that a person being gay is a result of being beaten by their parents as a kid. I'm not gay and one of my sisters isn't, but for our sister who is gay I can definitely think back to all the times my dad just beat the shit out of her and only her. look what happened.

I definitely agree with that, but the generalized belief of the Christian right that "homosexuality is a choice", is not coming from a sexual spectrum mentality. I will admit that the creedance that "no one would choose to be gay because it's too hard" is flawed logic.

-looks like 2&2 also didnt understand that you were speaking of the bisexual experience .

I believe in the spectrum and some level of choice. How else would you explain bisexuality? What are the odds that someone is born with exactly the same level of attraction to both sexes?

If the Charleston shooter isn't found insane, will Ben Carson claim the shooter chose to be gay after he's brutally raped in the big house multiple times?

well its not even limited to that if you think about it. I have no idea what is in the hearts of other men and women. If a person doesn't necessarily have an attraction to the same sex but chooses to live as a homosexual in a homosexual relationship with someone, who the fuck am I to say they aren't a homosexual? Its none of my fucking business for one, and two - how they arrived at that lifestyle is irrelevant. At that point they are, for all intents and purposes, a homosexual.

But I think you and I are on the same page. Fuck the fundamentalists.

I think that we're starting to use two different meanings for "choice" in this thread. My understanding of bisexuality is simply that a person is attracted to both males and females, so the choice involved is choosing a partner, temporary or monogamous. Thats not the definition of choice that we are trying to get rid of. The idea that all sexual orientations are choices, besides heterosexuality, is what we're fighting against.

What is a tea party wet dream?

Attraction isn't generally considered a choice, a heterosexual acting person might choose to act on homosexual attractions and impulses that they had previously been denying, but that would make them bisexual, not homosexual. That's not even getting into the fact that sex itself does not prove or cause sexual orientation. Many gay porn actors identify as heterosexual.

There's a difference in being homosexual, and engaging in homosexual acts...Wakeandbake is talking about someone engaging in acts regularly...they can choose to do that if they want. But the definition of homosexuality is being physically attracted to members of the same sex...not just having sex with them.

Another problem is that you two sex experts are basically in contradiction with the guy who has done the most research on the subject.

I wish Millenials would take it to the streets and bring on real political revolution.

They are on the right side of the issues - gays, racism, environment/energy, pot/prison industrial complex, and I think income inequality. They just haven't gotten together and forced any change. Shame
