The RTQ Collective Thread

The river that just started flowing is from the salivating Title IX lawyers.

The NCAA is paving the way for the SEC and Big Ten to use their new massive TV contracts to pay athletes and leave the rest of FBS behind unless the ACC and Big XII make massive changes.

This was always the going to be the outcome. And it's been pretty clear since the SCOTUS NIL case. And it's the reason why there was such jostling over larger payouts for conferences. The conferences would just drop the NCAA altogether if the NCAA wasn't going to go along with this plan.

It’s just amazing how we acquiesce, from politics to NCAA, to be ruled by fools. Twenty first century already notable for the amount of bullshit we let pass.
They tried to create a European soccer superleague and the fans revolted. ESPN and Fox destroy the fabric of college football and fans just hope their program doesn't get left out.

I had no idea Byron White was a Heisman trophy runner-up and College Football Hall of Famer. "Whizzer" White is one hell of a 1930s nickname.

It looks like Yahoo Sports was the first or one of the first news sources to break the story of NCAA president Charlie Baker's new proposal on separating the haves from the have-nots in college sports. Here is a link to Tuesday morning's in-depth story by Ross Dellinger:

According to what I have read, nothing will happen any time soon. The NCAA meets in January and that will be a first step but a few ADs from big-time football schools have already spoken in support of Baker's proposal.

Almost since NIL started, the NCAA and some ADs have been begging Congress to do something to regulate NIL and college sports in general. Congress has not been very interested and it won't be a top priority during an election year.

However, Baker's proposal is new and different because he is proposing that the NCAA will now finally act to take control of NIL. But he is asking Congress for help. He wants some kind of special exemption for the NCAA from other laws and court cases that have been changing the nature of college sports since 1984 and especially in the last several years. It sounds like Baker is asking Congress for something similar to Major League Baseball's antitrust exemption.

Baker was smart to specifically address the question of the effect of his plan on women's sports. His proposal would require schools to set aside a minimum amount money for equal numbers of male and female athletes. For years fans have been saying "Why don't we just pay the players?!" without addressing the elephant in the room: Title IX regulations that strictly require equal resources for men's and women's athletic programs (I know they're not perfectly equal anywhere, but you cannot ignore Title IX and Baker's proposal doesn't).

FSU adds 1000 members to their collective since their screwing.

Maybe this was all a setup by FSU. They knew they weren't going to win the NAtty without Travis. Now they can cry that they got screwed...beg for more NIL money, claim the ACC is the problem and find a way to leave. BRILLIANT!

How is it the ACC's fault?!

CFP Committee did this.... and f$u's bitching and whining before the season didn't help matters any.

Have you learned nothing of the stubbornness of FSU and its fans?

They'll blame anybody and everybody for their failings.

(though Boo Corrigan's bumbling answers and Jim Phillips' lack of public persona don't help matters)

This may have been addressed but is there any guidance from Wake or otherwise on how donors should allocate between Deacon Club and RTQ?

If somebody historically budgeted $1000 to the DC. Should it be split, 50-50, some other allocation?

That is entirley up to you. Some have decided to give additional. Some have decided to do 50-50.

Happy to connect with you - you're welcome to connect with your Deacon Club rep.
