Disco Dan on the GT Debacle

Seems to me that Overton is a problem. He thinks he is good and is not plus he runs his mouth. That screaming before the cause game seems not the place for a frost playing 5 minutes. Then when he has been in the game more negative than positive. Buzz clearly is pushing him. Seems a good coach would nip that shit.

Devin is a warrior. I've said I think he feels the heat more than others. The bile hurled at the program and the level of bad karma has its negative consequences. Devin needs to stay on the tracks here. Something may have happened in the locker room at the half.

Devin needs to channel his obvious passion and vigor into playing consistently well instead of how it is manifesting itself currently. If Wake could keep some of its past volatile athletes in check, a proper coach should help Devin too.

Two questions:

Can you tell me about the bile hurled at the program (which is to say, outside of a private message board, what is it and where do you see it)?

Can you please elaborate the causal link between said bile and negative consequences (which I'm assuming you mean Devin's recent comments in MTOW)?

Thank you!

reading Devin's comments in that article makes you really realize how incompetent Bzz is. There is no way a good (or even a decent coach) would allow his own player to make stupid comments like that on multiple occasions.

[/U][/B]

Of course, our coach is too busy saying dumb things himself to pay attention to what his players say. At least they have the excuse of being 20 years old.

I'm sure bzz was nodding g along while Devin said that. You know bzz believes it and probably even said it in the locker room. Chill has to want to puke listening to excuse after excuse.

Overton has to be the most unlikable freshman we've had.

So true. His enthusiasm would be great if he actually added something to the team skills wise. He basically does what walk-ons are supposed to do: be a warm body in practice and cheer for the rest of the team. Except he gets a free education for it.

The atmosphere is poison. Otherwise sound supporters of the program have turned nasty. Not just voting with their feet but nasty and personal. Wellman clearly is to blame but the atmosphere has created a toxic environment for the kids. Yea Devin talking about the fans shows this. Billboards etc. have been noticed by college basketball watchers, and it is unproductive on top of the obvious piss poor record that speaks for itself. It's beyond message boards. It is a very bad atmosphere as to the entire athletic program.

I'd put Tabb way ahead of him on the unlikable list. I actually don't dislike Overton at all. He gets pumped before a big game and the cameras catch it. I don't really see the problem.

If you don't know that Golden is not even playing in the game, then neither you nor your coaches have their heads where they should be.

Tabb barely existed on the court.

smartest freshman ever?

Devin seems like be could really use some of what Skip gave Josh Howard.

Tabb barely existed on the court.

Tabb missed some time b/c of mono and also missed several games so he could "focus on his academic work." In the 14 games he played. He averaged 8.9 minutes. Overton has not had any issues like that - in his first 18 games he's averaging 8.1 minutes.

Mckie scored 26 yes, but he had the same number of rebounds as a dead man until very late in the game.

Btw, did Tabb really ever have mono? Seems like I remember some speculation that it was just really AD spin for him being in the doghouse.

I rarely dislike Wake players, especially guys who actually play. McFarland towards the end of his career, maybe, but nobody else I can think of. I really wanted to like Thomas- he had a good story- overlooked, a star player for a sister, broke a backboard in HS, etc. But that guy is really starting to hack me off. He whines, gives up 2-3 easy transition possessions per game by whining to officials, and appears completely out of control of his emotions. And truth be told, he is only a top 30 or so guy in conference.

Until you are a star, keep your mouth shut.

And yes, he has some excuse because his coach is a fucking idiot.

Sometimes I wish Devin wouldn't talk and would just play. He lets his emotions get to him too easily. Really loves him against the world talk.

They are always having to calm him down on the floor and always having to get help from the coaches to calm him down with his "mf'ing" everybody. It got him tossed in the islands and it sure isn't helping him now. Just needs to calm down and play basketball and quit air balling free throws.

Josh was extremely passionate, but it was seen as a negative in his Frosh and Soph seasons, bringing out the 'team cancer' comments.

Josh's problem seemed to be that he didn't see eye to eye with Odom. Skip came in and got through to him really quickly and channeled his passion into an ACC POY.

I don't think Devin has a problem with Bzz, but Bzz is no Skip. Bring in a coach that can channel Devin's passion and the Wake fan base goes from questioning him to loving him.
