Updates to the Joel?

BTW, how much do houses that back up to OTC cost ? Is it more or less than $50K ?

The point here though is the fact that we bought this is simply a nonfactor on what we ought do now.

What we ought do now is build a 7-8K seat cracker box with risers for students somewhere--anywhere--near campus. We need it close enough we can walk and practice where we play. Practicing where you play is another huge advantage.

Great - Who is cutting the check to get the capital campaign rolling to buy the land and finance the construction?

And good luck telling the potential list of donors in this pool that their courtside seats are going away.

WE OWN THE LAND.

Home court advantage from an objective performance metrics relative to the quality of our team has never been an issue.

Correct on the current Joel site but DR's post did not specify the new cracker box with risers would be built on the Joel site.

Or did you miss the "close enough we can walk and practice" comment while multitasking on dawgvent.com?

The argument's been raging for literally twenty-five years on this board and the boards that came before it. Eventually, the people clamoring for a new arena were going to be right because the Joel was going to be twenty-five years older. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. . . .

How about the last 25 years of sucking -- through 5 coaches. You all said we would keep winning in 1998. The arena you said was "fine."

You were wrong. We wasted 25 years. Now should we waste 25 more???

There is no other site where a new arena could be built that we don't currently own that would fit those criteria Brad.

If it is absolutely impossible to acquire God Dome or anywhere else at this point (which I doubt), I'm fine with the location of the Joel.

Stick to the (potential?) UGA basketball coaching search, biff.

You are out of your element.

Wake owns the God Dome and the adjoining parcels.

I don't know if you've noticed but no one is exactly building hotels these days, especially not that far from an interstate. More likely buyer is a top golf, upscale strip mall or fast food joints.

But I do concede that if we ripped down the Joel, we could sell and recoup some of our money. Probably just a net million or so so we should probably just keep it.

maybe in Winston, but they can't build enough hotels out here. new ones going up all over town all the time.

The Joel was hemorrhaging money annually for the City. They were looking for any sucker to take it off their
I own several acres less than a 1/4 mile away. I will gladly sell it to any of you bozos for 50K/acre--let alone 250K. Good lawd.

Is it contiguous?

Exactly.

This was a bad argument when the Joel wasn't even 10 years old. It's a good argument now that the Joel will be 35 years old soon.

Or do similar to High Point and make a small hotel connected to the coliseum for fans coming in for a game. The next step in luxury suites. We need a big money donor with experience investing in hotel properties to pull it off, though. Oh well, opportunity missed.

I like this idea a lot.
