Official Omaha (Travel/Planning) Thread

Back at the KC airport after 18 hours on the ground in Omaha. A few things from my experience in case it helps anyone:

I stayed at the “Hyatt Place Downtown - Old Market.” Great location, walkable to the stadium and a bunch of restaurant/bar options right there. As soon as I walked in I figured out that it is the official Oral Roberts hotel. So if they lose today or tomorrow, there could be a significant chunk of rooms open up there, just FYI.

Ate a late dinner (like at 10:30pm after the game) at Upstream Brewing Company. Good local beers and a big menu: https://maps.app.goo.gl/pNc7Vs4uM2qvhVP76?g_st=ic

Had a couple of drinks earlier in the day at Brickway Brewing and Distilling. Also good option right by the Hyatt: https://maps.app.goo.gl/pYowPKdnXBAyCMhC8?g_st=ic

Rocco’s was 90% LSU fans. Will be interesting to see how it changes if they’re no longer around. Honestly was so crowded as to not be enjoyable.

Lots of food options past all the merchandise tents in the fan zone across the street from the center field entrance. As one does when in the heartland, got myself some deep fried cheese curds among a number of other such delicacies.

Lots of Wake gear to be found all around the stadium, cool to see.

Overall wish I could’ve stayed longer, definitely plan to come back in the future.

I did a hotel in Council Bluffs - seems like a 10 min ride and the reviews weren't terrible. Don't plan to spend a ton of time there anyway, and it was the best priced upon my quick scout.

I've already booked a bus and a big ass house for Omaha.

We will have zero affiliation with the A.D.

Booze and gambling will be encouraged, at all times.

Lies

The continued pessimism in this thread is wild.

This is the year.

More and more of you are getting uninvited from our bus and big ass house in Omaha.

Lies

Who the fuck is worried about next year?

My fucking god. Live in the moment.

Another poster banned from the Omaha house.

Lies

Another motherfucker uninvited from the Omaha house.

Lies

The Omaha house keeps getting less crowded.

Lies

I think I worked out a comped room at the Harrah's in Council Bluff.

Only 3.1 miles to the stadium.

Ugh, don't know how to plan this to maximize games I see and minimize cost. I'm assuming I'm leaving Tuesday because I couldn't miss a game 3 of the champ series, but when do I depart?

I could leave Wednesday night, in which case I'm at least guaranteed 1 Wake game (Thursday possible elimination game). And the only "affordable ($579)" flight Thursday is during that possible elimination game. Prices are up to $800 for flights that depart on Friday.

Hopefully we win Wednesday and I can take the Thursday flight. But I don't want to book that now, because if we lose Wednesday, then I can't watch the game Thursday from the air. And there's a chance I land in Nebraska and we're eliminated. Seems like leaving Wednesday is the best bet?

Good lord. I'm around $750 round trip from Charleston to Chicago to Omaha.
Damn. I was coming here to say that this exact flight is too much for me and was hoping someone would have a better option

If you aren't going Wednesday, why don't you just plan to fly out friday or sat am? Not worth going thursday during an elimination game not knowing if we'll play again.
Saturday AM and Friday PM are prohibitively expensive tbh. But I guess decreased cost in housing helps.

Yeah that's what I thought as well, the sticker shock on a 7-800 flight sucks, but going out two days earlier to save 300 doesn't matter when you have two more hotel days plus whatever you spend on tickets, food etc.

But anyway you slice it it's going to be expensive and worth it.

That was my thought, after we beat Bama I paid $700 for good flights times from Greensboro and a refundable ticket in case we shit the bed opening round. But possible once-in-a-lifetime experience (until we repeat next year) is worth it.

If you are on the fence... go to Omaha. It's worth it. Really fun atmosphere, and fellow Deacons abound.
