MTOW: Olsen letting the students have it

All I'm going to say on the matter, is that when things go well, students will show up. What is frustrating is that they will feel just as entitled to their free tickets that they don't use when we are down. I care a great deal that Wake Forest student athletes who busted their ass all day yesterday (and as crazy as it sounds, the defense played as admirable a game as I have ever seen) when they say they don't feel the support of their fellow students. It's telling about more than just our recent struggles, and to refuse to acknowledge that is naïve.

Yep. That is going to get lost in the turnover fiasco. The defense sits right in front of us. Watching how hard they were playing and how hard the defensive coaches were coaching was pretty amazing considering the situation they were in. Held FSU under 300 yards and Jameis looked pretty human to me. He wasn't exactly Tom Brady.

Holy shit, do you fucking morons have to bitch about this every year? It really is this simple:

Only diehard sports fans are going to go to games when we suck this badly.
When your student body only has 4,000 students, you have a LOT fewer diehard sports fans than most other schools.

That's why there aren't that many students there.

And for all the old farts who are going to respond with "We still got a ton of students to drive to Greensboro in the 80s when our basketball team was terrible!" Guess what? If you had been able to watch the game in high definition from your dorm room without having to drive anywhere, then the vast majority of the students wouldn't have made that trip

You have no idea what you're talking about.

Nothing compares to tailgating before a game then going into a game, followed by more tailgating. I'm glad your HDTV makes your porn that much better, though. Carry on.

Agree with Olsen, but can't blame the students after watching our offense score 3 points in two games. We are averaging less than a safety a game.

Where the fuck do you think I was yesterday?

Why would a casual sports fan, or somebody who doesn't really care about sports, have fun going into that gave yesterday?

Unless your team is awful and you're fed up with the coach, OC, and Athletic Department in general. Then it's more fun to tailgate, stay outside, and tailgate some more.

Clearly I was joking about your not being there. The point is that TV does not replicate the on site experience. I was a student there once. We sucked, perhaps worse than we do this season, yet I wouldn't trade that experience for a 55" HD game watch in my living room. It's their loss, and please don't be an apologist for.them.

Again, the experience was important to you because you are a big sports fan. If somebody was a casual fan or didn't care much about sports, the experience wouldn't mean shit to them

If current Wake students feel that empty student sections will impress better recruits and help us secure better coaching, by all means, sit at home.

How many students does it take to "fill" our student section?

The current wake students who weren't at the game don't really care about impressing recruits or securing better coaching

Do Stanford students care?

What was their attendance like when the team sucked balls?

When your team is winning, games are fun, and casual fans / people who don't care about sports will come. When your team sucks, only diehard sports fans go to games.

This really isn't hard to understand

We may not do a lot of things great, but we sure do have some pretty amazing tailgates at WFU.

I understand that teams are more popular when they win, but thanks for clarifying.

It seems that you don't understand that, actually

Also, you are the one who brought up stanford, so I thought you would have more information than just "they're a small school and their students go to games (even though their team is awesome right now and they just had a Heisman Trophy winner)"

My understanding is that the smart kids at Stanford have historically better supported their team than our smart kids.
