    Stanford dropping 11 varsity sports

Stanford just announced they are dropping 11 of their 36 varsity sports due to Covid related budget cuts. Very surprising as I would think Stanford, of all colleges, would have deep enough pockets to get thru this without cuts. Look for more cuts at other schools.

    Women's Golf

Jennifer Kupcho is currently in a 5 way tie for the lead in the NCAA Women's Golf Championships. Leaders are at even par. Kupcho is -2 today. Yesterday round was rained out, so today is day 2. After men's tennis lost last night, it would be great for Jennifer to bring home an individual title.

Congrats Ben Lincoln - Wake Javelin record

Yesterday at the Wake Forest Open, Ben Lincoln broke his own school record with a throw of 234' 3". If you don't know much about the javelin, this is an amazing throw. Ben went to the NCAAs last year as a soph..........he's still got plenty of time for more records and national recognition...

Since Spring Practice is finally here, I thought it might be a good idea to have one spot to post news, updates and personal observations (from all of you lucky enough to spend some time 'on the wall') To get things started, here's a brief summary from the first practice yesterday. Really...

    Wake Track + Football

Not sure how many of you follow track, but we have some great new additions this year from the football team. While we usually do have a few guys running sprints, I wanted to give a shout out to these guys for some exceptional performances in their first meet. Love to see these guys burning up...

Kevin Jordan - Tom Walter update

Great story that continues on a positive note. Both Kevin and Coach Walter say they're at 100% after last year's kidney transplant and Kevin should be starting for the Deacs when the baseball season opens soon. Wishing these guys and the team all the best. Go Deacs...

    Wake Hoops - no respect

I saw this on a list of top places to retire. Pretty good publicity for Winston-Salem, except for the dig at our basketball team. Shame on Kiplinger. Winston-Salem might not enjoy the same name recognition as, say, Charlotte, but this growing city packs tons of Southern hospitality at a...

Wake Golf - Carpet Capital Classic

A tough first day for the Deacs. They were +10 and are in 11th place out of 12 teams. Ga Tech is leading at -2, followed by Chattanooga, Clemson, Auburn. The best Deacon round today was a 72 by Thomas Birdsey, our #5 seed. Evan Beck had a rough time with a 79, including a triple bogey...
