    Google Fiber

At a new complex my company is building in Raleigh (cameron village area) AT&T is bringing fiber to each unit for their U-Verse product. They are getting very aggressive with their marketing agreements and capital expenditures to lay down the infrastructure--should be some good competition now.

Question about purchasing a house with a slab foundation

The biggest issue with slab foundations has been relative to future renovations and positive drainage. As said earlier, if you anticipate any kitchen or bath renovations which might require moving fixtures around, you are looking at a more expensive renovation to dig out the concrete and then...

I force to suffer/enjoy a variety of races. Faster paced races hurt during, but there is usually little needed post race to recover. Next week I will try to *race* the CRBR. Not really to place against others, but to beat my time last year. It will be a miserable 6.2 miles (at least I am in...

    Hillsborough/Chapel Hill Dinner Recs

best bar in the area is definitely Peccadillo. only 3 cocktails on the menu and the bar staff is A+. Very low key and adult (but not old) http://www.indyweek.com/indyweek/the-standard-and-peccadillo/Content?oid=2817352

My running group is thinking of putting together a 6-man ultra team to run the Colonial 200 from Charlottesville, VA to Williamsburg in late September. Last year was the first year of the race, so its fairly untested. The same group puts on the Palmetto 200. From what I understand, last year...

Today marked my first official Marathon BOMB/disaster/disappointment at Shamrock in Virginia Beach. Went out to a great 1:50 first half, then the cramps started. First the in calves, then to the inside quads, groin, outside quads, and finally....the toes. The last half was basically run a...

    Laettner's Real Estate Brick

Its a shame, really, because their developments in Durham really are great. I'm actually going on a tour of what they developed the first week of April, lead by planners at the City of Durham and Duke Real Estate Office. A lot of Dukies lost a lot of money with them--most didn't invest as much...

Awesome weather this morning for the Crystal Coast Half-Marathon in Morehead City/Atlantic Beach...except for the 30 mph headwinds. Runners were being thrown all over the bridge and it was a serious hit to my time. Other than that, it was in the 50s and Sunny and the course wasn't too bad...

How poor were you in college?

I also had no cell phone (00-04) and didn't get a car until my Senior year. That summer before I saved a car payment+insurance/week so I could afford to pay for it that school year. My work study job covered about $200-$250/month in off-campus expenses/gas and the rest went on credit Cards or...

My dad lobbied hard for Robert Todd (had my sister been a boy). Inevitably, it would have been "Bob Todd." What could have been... I am just thankful nobody got either of my grandparents names: Halbert and Laverne.

I have been totally benched since last Wednesday with an achilles strain in my left heel. Other than stretching/ice/rest is there anything I can do? I have a half marathon a week from Saturday and I really needed to get a long run in this weekend for my full-marathon in 4.5 weeks :(

Having a common or popular name is not the end of the world--as long as it has some basis in tradition. Try being a Michael/Mike born in the early 80s. Its not so bad to have a traditional/popular name (Michael, Katerine, William, etc) with lots of possibilities of nicknames.

    What chain restaurants don't suck?

I think that they criteria should be 15 or more locations. That's what NYC used to define a chain when they started to require all chain restaurants to post their nutritional information on menus. edited to add: Upon further reflection, Nobu is the best chain. Just checked the website and...
